Who's got advice on sound deadening?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Groucho, Feb 1, 2011.

  1. I'm trying to get my Vette in my avatar a bit quieter inside. I'm using Rattle Trap Extreme that's 80 mil, and appears just like Dynamat. While the guts are out, I'd like to try and get this as quiet as possible. I'm also putting 1/4" of jute/foil over this stuff. There's also a cavity on each side that I'm filling with expanding foam. So, any advice? Thanks

Be careful with the expanding foam, flammable and if you shoot it into some where it just keeps expanding and can actually lift bend or crack it's area of confinement, what you did there should work really well, looks nice.

Id say you got it covered Groucho. Love those Vettes.

  4. Yeah, I get what you're saying. It's happened to me before. But, in this case the stuff has a way "out". I spray a little, let it cure over night, then apply some more. When the area is where I want it I'll shave it to shape before putting the trim panel back on.

  5. if you do a search, there's a pretty extensive thread on sound deadening. covers everything from lizard skin to dynamat to the stuff lobucrod sells.

Awesome. This is what I want to do to my lowrider while the interior is out being redone. Was it hard to lay that mat down like that?

  7. It's peel and stick. It sticks very well, and goes around curves pretty good. I scraped most the old glue with a putty knife type scraper, went over it with 100 grit, vacuumed the dust, then wiped with laquer thinner. And it's CHEAP! ONE HUNDRED sq ft for $169...with free shipping on Ebay. That's right, Ebay. NOT EGAY, NOT flea bay.

I used a product called hushmat, seems to work OK. but not the best as a thermal barrier.
most of these sound deadening products also come with some kind of tape for the seams, it helps.

You Could also have it rhino lined with all the other insulation. Spray it in first put the insulation on top.

  10. I'm not looking to compare product, as I've already made my choice. I'm looking for supplement ideas that might make the car quieter before I re-install the carpet

  11. I have many small/thin gaps. It's that kind of advice I'm looking for. How much might those gaps matter?

  12. uh, yeah.
    thats all in there too.....

You should be very happy with that, it kills all the resonance and vibration noise real well, take it for a run if you can. I used aluma tape for the gaps on mine, a roll of aluminum tape for duct work.

I don't think it will matter a whole lot for sound but the tape helps with the heat.

    looks good!

  15. a link?

  16. Actually, forget the link. I just saw a couple threads. Too much of the same post over and over without any real help. I'll just see if anything creative shows here

  17. Cool, thanks. Maybe I'll go to OSH and grab a roll. The Vette does get warm inside as well as noisy. I like my hot rods to sound good out the window, not from within when I'm on a long drive. Last time I drove it to Bako I had the CD at warp 9 static just to hear something. And i do like music on the drives

Is that NCRS quality :D :D.

Sorry had to do that. If I ever get another Vette it will be restored to MCRS standards (My Corvette Restoration Skills )

    It looks good to me.
