    Muttley:

Great history on the Stangs. Really enjoyed them.

Is it possible to do something on the 61-62 Didges & Plymouths?

You know, the ugly ones. LOL

Great photos of the Stone,Woods&Cook vs Beswick match race.Laying down the "gold dust' in the one photo makes that special. Also nice to see you did not crop the photographers name out like so many do.

  17. Hey now, i wouldnt say Dale was the ONLY big chev that was competitive... i can think of a handful, and with a two speed a chevy would haul ass. I guess the big advantage would be you could take a stock big truck block, Iron heads... and with the right internals have a fuel motor that would run low 6s conistantly on a budget. But i digress... I just love chevs on fuel, very unique sound!

  20. Ray still has the cowl from this hanging on the wall in his garage. They came out with a new one a few years ago that Williams was touring around with.

Look at the body work on Collett's car. This is right after he lengthened it so he could fit the second motor in the frame. The frame is exposed underneath the motor. Later photos show the body work extending under both motors.

Moats and Williams.... very tough competitors. They were tough to get around even when they had busted one motor and had only one left. They then ran almost as good as the best of the singles. You never gave them an inch or they would walk all over you.

Just a little side note on this car: it was purchased from Dyno Don after winning at Englishtown, NJ by some street racers who offered Dyno Don so much money he couldn't refuse it. They primered the car and went street racing, supposedly winning several hundred thousand dollars over a couple year period from other drug dealer/street racers. After they were through with it, the engine was removed and it sat in a garage in Brooklyn until it was tracked down and restored by the guy who owns Cobra Automotive who'd heard rumors of it for years, but had to track it, then convince the guy who owned it to sell. Neat story and it's in one of Tom Cotter's barn find books.

  26. It would be interesting to see a pic of that same car sitting still and be able to compare.

  27. Rick,
Wanted to thank you for all the great additions to this thread.
This post I am pretty sure was late 1962, not '64. I build and collect M/T HEMI Pontiac stuff. This was the lesser known 2nd car and had a more rounded body. Not sure whos chassis it is. The main or 1st M/T HEMI Pontiac digger was a squarish Dragmaster and won US Nationals in '62.
My understanding is this car shown ran on both nitro and gas (NHRA) and was destroyed/wrecked at Lions when it went into a wheelstand ( perhaps this one? ) and broke one of its American mags, it crashed into the building or tower down the track a bit on the left side. It ended up against the building with the front end still up in the air and the motor still running. An official ran over and pulled plug wires off the engine to get it shut off. Sounds like a crazy story. I had a friend tell me this 15 or so years back who witnessed it. I kinda' took it with a grain of salt so to speak because it seemed a bit outrageous but, stange enough, I met another person, a fuel racer, at the patch years later and he told me the same story!!

Does anyone else here have any info on this particular car or that accident?

  28. Here is a recently found picture of the #2 Pontiac HEMI car at the '62 US Nationals. These pics prove there were 2 HEMI Pontiacs competing there.
As best as I have been able to document, the wheelstand pic you posted is a later '62 ( after US Nationals ) pic.

I consider this a very modern looking for for mid year 1962. If it wasn't for the weedburners and the injectors, it could look like 1965-6.

Is this the car that Chrisman had his "incident" in...the one that made anti rotation devices very popular?
