I was just reading another thread where a guy with his FIRST POST was bitching about being ripped off for a transmission ...

Someone advised him that he should do a INTRO.

As aways it started a shit storm !

Why can't some NEW & OLD folks understand the reason behind a INTRO?

Don't you guys understand that it helps you all find out a little about the folks your dealing with.

If you read the rules it right their in BLACK & WHITE ,It only takes a second and help with so much down the line ,

Don't you want to start off on the right foot and be part of the program,

It sure helps to know a little about the next guy that you MAY want to buy something from ..

Ryan don't ask much from us

at least we could try to follow the rules, pass along a little help to the next guy ,

without all the bull shit about INTRO POLICE and all the other smart ass comments

because THIS SITE ISN'T OWE TO US....

Most of us come here to belong AND enjoy it.....

    What do ya think ?

Come on lets have it, I have my fire proof undies on and a big bag of popcorn ...

    Shoot your best shot.....

If its off topic - remove it !

I agree, not asking much of new members to do a simple intro...

I don't know why people get so bent out of shape about it. I really think most of the intro police are just trying to boost their post count.

Most would never think of walking into a club meeting that they weren't a member of and start talking like they belonged there...same thing applies.

I like the guys who post for sale stuff as their 1st post and bump it 20 minutes later for their 2nd. If you can spell for sale, you can probably read the fuckin' rules.

I like to see a proper intro and the rules do state it as a requirement. On the other hand, in an older thread, I also saw Ryan himself state that he felt intros were silly, so I really don't know what to think.

All FNG posts should be ignored until they do an intro. I think it was mandatory in the old HAMB

Sometimes I miss the "OLD" HAMB..

  8. I didn't have a problem with it, but some people are just shy. It does serve a usefull purpose. Rule #1, read the rules.

When I join a site, I always try to do an intro.

A friend referred me to the HAMB. When I started reading (lurking), I didn't know quite what to think... but, I did a quick intro and was pleasantly surprised to get a number of very friendly 'welcome to the site' messages.

So, I agree... (1) read the rules (2) do an intro and (3) if you're REALLY smart, you can play dumb on any early purchases by asking something like: "I'm looking at buying a dwindle valve from RacerXYZ - do you think it will work on my '35 Jetstar?" If 'ole RacerXYZ is an a-hole, with any luck you'll get a PM saying "Don't buy from him".

  10. I posted there and knew it was going to be a fiasco...

Rules are rules. Without rules, there is chaos. He'll stand up, then he'll stand up, then we'll all stand up then there will be anarchy.

    Intro..then bitch....in that order. Done.

I kind of made the mistake of not introducing myself first. The other forum i'am on is paintball related and it started with pretty much everyone knowing each other to some extent.

Being a newbie I feel you should follow the rules of the site. I read them completely before joining and I feel it respects the members who have been on this site long before I found it.

  13. Maybe Ryan doesn't know everything either.:D
    I mean, he is a young dude.
    Do they do intros?

It makes no differance if they do one or not, it isn't mandatory, advised and considered good manners, but not mandatory. If someone does an intro it is pages back in a week or two and gone into a black hole never to be seen again. How many serious HAMBer's go there and look? A new member signs on every hour, it would be take alot of time to keep up on them.

In the first years of the HAMB i could see it being a good thing as the member count was MUCH lower. I find their profile page to be a better place to let others know about their likes and what brought them here, to the traditional rod/custom way of life and this site. I see members here with less than 50 posts and have been here for years. When i see a post from a member i have never seen before i go to their profile page to see what they are like and what they build and or drive.

Everyone has a first post, it has to be something, a rant, a nice ride comment, or an add in the classifides. I have gone back and looked at some of mine and say WTH...was i drunk? Some of the long time members should do it it's good for a laugh.

in my opinion i think some of the new comers are so excited that this type of forum actually exists that they want to dive right in and forget to read the rules. hell i probably would have skipped the intro but my brother warned me heavily to do one.

But the new guy did belong here, the second he joined. No membership fees, no voting on who is allowed. You just weed out the ones you don't want over time. By the way, I did walk into a meeting I wasn't a member of, and started talking like I belonged there, because I was invited to join in on the conversation by the club members. Seems I had information they wanted to know. If some one is screwing people over the phone, and overcharging you on shipping, cheating you out of your money; I'd like to know about it, and I would be greatful for that information. I wouldn't rag his ass for not properly introducing himself on his 1st post. May just point out to do intro on next post. My 2 cents.

An intro shows you can follow simple rules and respect the community.

So if a guy does an intro, by saying, "Hi Guys, I'm new here and I have been into cars my whole life". Does that really help you to know the person?

Gee, I never did an intro. I thought this site was about traditional rods and customs, not anal rule-keeping. Of course, I didn't read the rules just like I don't read instructions when I build something.
    :)

  23. No but it shows respect, and earns respect.

  24. I made the mistake of posting a wanted post before doing a intro. I had never been on a forum before, this is the first and only one i am on. But it helped me to understand how things worked when the police came calling. Still learning how it works on here, and I don't think it is a big deal to be corrected by you guys. I like the hamb and enjoy learning and checking out the different threads.

  25. i very rarely read the intros so i dont care if they do them or not

but if i find someone who hasnt done one i usually try to answer thier question if i think i can

then advise them they should do a intro to preempt the shit storms

I treat the hamb like i would treat a junkyard owner for the first time. Be polite. Be Respectful. Be patient. I want more from it than it wants from me. If that makes sense.

  29. I guess rule 6 doesn't exist then.
Just a figment of our imagination.. :D

    Rules:
    1. No profanity in subject lines
    2. No political/religious/racial posts
    3. No Porn.
    4. All personal information listed on this board is private and protected. The HAMB does not sell this information and you are not privy to use it for your own reasons. Test us on this one and we will bite.
    5. New Users must fill out thier profiles. Every bit that you can. Simply click on "User Cp" above and get to work.
    6. New users must introduce themselves in the intro forum.
