The blue coupe has Astros... or one of the many copies of them that were made in the mid to late sixties. Someone up the page mentioned J.C.Penney's, they made a copy too. I'm far from an expert, but the biggest difference that i have seen between Astos and it's copies, is the fact that Astro stamped the center with a bit of dish, where as most of the off brand copies stamped them flat. These are fairly common around here in the smaller wrecking yards, but not in fifteen inch sizes any more. What bolt patterns and sizes are you looking for? I can keep my eyes open.

Sounds like a lead. They used to be everywhere around here, and you could pick them up for $10 a pop. Now they are getting thin on the ground. Not all the copies were flat, some were dished. Those would be the ones to look for.

Real Raders are a good choice, but they are getting pretty hard to find. I know there are a couple guys on here that have some, but I dont think they are for sale.

  8. Why don't you look at '60s car magazines and get the real scoop on what they were using, and pick what you think would suit your build?

Can you enlighten me on the name change and or MFG. change. When did it occur? Are the current Radirs a newer repop or has it just become a bastardized name?

    Thanks.

Do like we did in the '60's....use anything that's different. Oops, I guess that wouldn't be like the 60's, though....or would it? hmmm...

  12. My pops came into hot rodding in the mid-late 60's. He's a Crager S/S man through and through. In his opinion nothing looks better. I guess they made an impression on him in those years.

Honestly, one of my favorite "looks" of the mid to late sixties is 15 X 6 Cragar S/Ss and U.S. Royal or Firestone bias ply narrow white walls. Most coupes and roadsters seemed to run a 7.60 or 8.20 rear, and a 5. 60 front.

As F&J said, gone around '68-'69. Radirs are no relation to the old company, just going by my crappy old memory, started up again, maybe late 80s?? I could dig some stuff up when I get home, and give a firmer answer. The Raders were a totally different wheel, polshed aluminum center in a chromed steel rim, generally had more negative offset (deeper dish) that the current ones as well.

Sorry, edit: Positive offset. Thats what i get for postong when I should be working...

You can put me down as another huge fan of Cragars, especially on "off-topic" 60s era cars.
