Childs play... Blown & injected A coupe

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hellblue, Feb 5, 2011.

  1. I have been building this tot rod for my boy, he is almost 11 now & has been driving his last one since he was 5, oh & if that lump in the front looks to real for any one it has a quad bike engine in the rear....

Its all home built & i had to teach myself new skills to build it here a run down
The start... the making of the plug to make the mould for the body

The filling & adding swage lines

    The primer

The mould being made (i wanted the visor as part of the roof so the top of the screen is a mould on its own)

At this point, as it was my first fibreglass attempt i didnt know if i had made one big mess or a mould for the body !! but it was fine & came apart easy

Having bolted it back together & laying up the body we left it a week or so (again not knowing if i had mad a big mess or a body) & then removed the mould to find a body !!

The windows & trunk opened up & we have a body to build around !!!

you should build a real car outta one of those!

looks like a v8-60 is about perfect!

  12. Build time ! first in was the thin wall tube cage
    [IMG]

I wanted rear suspension as well but because the engine & axles are what they are a bit of thought was needed, i went for a wishbone rear & mounted every thing on a subframe simple

The fuel tank needed to be above the engine (gravity feed) & had to look the part, the shocks are at the rear of the subframe, a panhard rod to hold it all in place, the axle will be split so 2 calipers & a handbrake is needed these are from a vw car as the cost was a lot cheeper than gokart brakes !

Here is the rear subframe made up

And here is the split rear axle, with a diff ! which is as simple as it gets .. a cars front wheel drive, front wheel bearing (one case & two races) this can all be bolted together as a locked axle via the two plates each side of the bearing (for when jack goes drag racing )

if anyone wants to see a more detailed build upyou can see it here

I want one. I'm positive I won't fit in it so can you just deliver one to park in my living room?
Then again I can't even let my kids see this or they'll want one.
