I've been following this for a while but have failed to comment. Great work man. One of my favorite projects here.

Are those Limeworks bronze shackle bushings? I'm picking up a set from them at the end of this week.

Have you thought about using a piece of black electrical shrink tubing over the brake lines?

  4. Thanks guys! Your comments keep me going! And Dave, I wish I was as far along as you!

  5. Nick, the bearings are bronze flange bearings from the hardware store. After discussing my concern of premature wear with the plastic ones with Kevin Lee, he said he used these on his modified. It took a couple trips to different stores but I managed to find enough to get the job done. Kind of spendy but I think it will be money well spent.

The heat shrink is exactly what I was thinking for the hoses. Great minds think alike! Ha!

Say hi to Pamona, CA for me and have a safe trip.

I see McMaster Carr lists some Oil Impregnated Bronze bushings, too, for future reference ;)

  7. Yup. That's the stuff right there.

We had a shit ton of snow this week, and I've been a plowin' fool, so not a lot of progress.

Last week I fought the brakes. I ran all the lines then the fun began ( and the cussing!) after redoing a couple of lines and rebuilding a couple of brand new wheel cylinders (poop!) I finally have brakes!

    Ahh.

I also cleaned out the gas tank then mounted it and ran the lines. Those will probably leak too!

I hope to put the engine back in this weekend.

    Thanks for looking!

Cactus it's looking great. I have 3 stock early chevy 10 gallon fuel tanks, I might have to use one of them now for my project.

  10. Thanks Jeff! The red-topped piece is a filter. Street roddy huh?! Haha!

Thanks John! You don't happen to have an extra gas cap for one of these tanks do you? It has external threads on the fill tube. I was told it was '31, but I think it's more like '27?

27, 28, and 29 chevy tanks had an external fuel guage that was mounted with a threaded cover on the passenger side. I believe the gas cap was a twist on type? of course I have slept since I took them out of my projects. I'll check tomorrow for ya to be sure.

  12. Yeah. I had a '29 tank that had what you describe and it was almost the same shape. Maybe this one is not Chevy at all? I keep resisting the urge to cut the neck off and weld on something different.

    Thanks in advance for checking.

  13. Completing brake lines is good progress in my eyes. :D
    Looks great so far!

Man I had better quit playing around and get back to work on my chevy. The bronze bushings are just oilite hat bushings ? and will outlast those nylon bushings ? If so I am calling Purvis bearing and ordering some. I had to build a spring spreader to install my rear spring and that high arch spring scares me. I guess if you used grease when you install them they would last longer to . Sorry for being a bitch about the small things but those springs make me nervous a buddy of mine had little mishap. Installing his and the trip to the emergancy room slowed us down by a few hours last year. He just got a sprain and a few bruises but we built a better spreader now !we learned to respect those things ! truck looks great and we are freezing our tropical Texas asses off !!

Well none of the filler necks were threaded:mad: I did modify one of the tanks awhile ago with a modern cap design it wasn't too tough. I didn't even hurt myself.
Again your truck is turning out great.

  16. Thanks brudda!

Terry, I hope they last longer than the plastic ones. I expect at least twice the life. I have oil cups on my rear spring and I'm thinking about adding Zerks to the front. I hope I get to drive it enough to wear 'em out!

I hear you on the springs. I took the front one apart to paint it and install the bushings. I recently purchased Mac's fancy USA made spring spreaders (I had been saving my gift certificates!) and it works a treat. Had I not had that, I would have taken it apart and put the main leaf on by itself. I have sent my dentist on too many vacations to knock my chompers out!

Thanks for checking man. Upon further research, the only Chevy cap that I can find that is threaded on the inside is the '23 -'25 , but I cant find any measurements. The Filling Station wants $80.00! :eek:They must have me confused with a Deuce Ford owner! :D

Blammo? I like that word. Where is your other carb? I just got this the other day, I am not sure if I will use it yet.
