Some news ! after rebuilding the carbs, linked everything, finishing fuel lines, water hoses, and water heated the intake with some rigid tubes + hoses, I've started yesterday to fill the radiator. When the water start to reach the intake level, I saw a nice double leak around the Offenhauser intake... after checking that, it appears that the intake is leaky ! This intake comes with a water heating system, and, for some obvious casting reasons, there is 2 kind of freeze plugs to close 2 casting holes. And both are leaky !! This Offy intake is "made in USA" labelled, but, quality is "China style" !! I'm pretty upset ! So, after removing the intake water lines (that event closed the "heating the intake or not ?" question) , I've almost started the engine ! but the battery booster was empty, so, engine first start video will be (I hope !) available at the next project update ! Stay Tuned !
Merci pour le conseil. pour le moment, je n'ai pas encore monté de thermostat, le circuit d'eau a cet endroit a été modifié, il faut que j'en trouve un. Un recommandation particuliere ?
I may be wrong . 6 engines are quite flat . The water doesn t go everywhere at the first start . This may cost a head ... At least you won t have heat before 2 minutes ... This costed me 2 head gasket . For nuts in fact , just my error . Not the same engine as yours , a 232 Rambler . But ALsace is not as cold as Canada . N en mets pas pour commencer , ca va éviter des pb Don t use a thermostat for the first times . M enfin , je suis plus un Gaston qu un vrai mecano .. Faisait -10 ce matin , c est frette I m a jobber , not a mechanic . Sorry if we sometimes speak another language
I ve been in Canada since 2003 , been learning english for years at school ( Bac D ) , working with electronics / computers , so unless I say it , nobody notice english is not my native Not worse than some I read here .... The main reason why I write english here is that it s a us forum . Take a look at http://aamq.forumactif.net . It s all french . Not so much advices as you could have here , but funny and full of quekebers . Was - 10 C this morning .....
That's an intriguing build you have, Empire32. A lot of neat ideas in the mix. What British car are the front and rear shocks from?
I've lever shocks on the four corners. All from UK cars. Front are Armstrong, but don't know the origin (Austin Healey maybe ?). Rear are from rear MG-A (or B ?), using also the MG shock links. On front, the shocks links are 34 Ford I believe.
Thanks! I've seen several MGs during my treasure hunts but I didn't bother to investigate them for anything useful. MGs are now on my list. The tunneled floorpan under the seat is another nice touch.
I don't have a lot of time to work on my modified at this time, but this week i've worked a little bit on it. I've started to work on the firewall (I don't have the original one), and descide to go for a 2 part firewall like on a 28/29 Ford. I need now to add some beads, holes, bolts, to look more "original" . And of course, there will be some accessorries, like a cowl, regulator, fuel block, body tag, and radiator support brackets...
Some progress ! Firewall is not finished, but I've done some radiator support rod, using Model A brake links, cutted and threaded, and repop bracket on the firewall. I've also made a bracket on the radiator side, supporting also some sheetmetal work to close the space on the top of the radiator. This part is now equipped with a removable aluminium lid, to have an access to the radiator filling. I've put a vintage water cooling information plaque on the lid. Nxt step is finishing the firewall, by creating some beads and bolting together the upper and lower parts.
Ettiene, You are sure having some good progress on yourrod. I like the little abbreviated w/s. Makes your rod have a intage racer feel. I would keep it if you can. Dave
Etienne, Like the progress that you have been making. Firewall is going to look great. Like the shocks you chose to use. On my'31 "A" Coupe I am using Houdaille shocks for the front of '41 Fords. I had them and they fit great. Will stay tuned for further progress. Dave
I don't had a lot of time these past months, but, anyway, I've worked on it a little bit yesterday. Firewall is now equipped with a bead, and almost finished.
Etiene, Just reread the latter part of your thread. Loving your creativity and build skill. Each and every piece you touch shows your skills and patience. Wish I was that good at build details ! Dave
Your making great progress E!! For that vintage French racer feel, how about using some old French (please correct me if I'm wrong) style racing numbers? Like the "2" seen here on the famous LeMans Bentley "Old Number Two"!
yeah, exactely, I like the old racer feeling, and I will work in that way for all of the finishing details. Numbers are an option, but not sure yet.
The firewall is now ok, and bolted on with some accessories. I've also put a fake radiator cap, and the dashboard is now adapted and bolted. The body is a Citroen from 1924-25, and the dashboard is from a later Citroen model, around 1932. It's shortened and modified to fit.
