    Dave,
Great Picture...that is local guy Al Tschida and the 2nd coupe he ran (the first coupe is the one pictured two posts above. This one was sold and went to California, and was re-lettered (See post 762, bottom left).
I am not sure, but this picture looks like the one in the NHRA rule book the year after Al won C/G. Somewhere around '63-'64-'65.
He has built a 3rd one almost identical that was finished last spring...I'll try and post a picture of it. One distinct feature of his car's were the chromed, or stainless rocker sills. New one has them too!

Looks to me like the same car.

Only thing is, the car in the barn is a 40 and this green one is a 41. Look at the wipers.

For the record: Al Tschida won C/Gas at the NHRA NATIONALS in 1964. He was runner-up in C/Gas in 1963 and 1965. Class finalist three years in a row is quite an accomplishment.

  11. Wow...a few more pictures of Al's car.
That's Al at Pomona all right!

    Dave,
I didn't want to confuse you...#445 is the same one as the car in the barn.
The car numbered 331 is his car #2 and the same as 612 & Antelope Valley.
Al Chromed the hinges on car #2, and they were painted on car #1
Old racer just posted a very good picture of car #1.
Car number 3 is actually a '39 body, but looks like the other two.

Ok, Kiwi Kev posted this cool pic of wheel standing Willys way back in one of his Nasty Habit Willys threads. Someone asked about the car, but noone seemed to know anything about it.

Then, the other night I stumbled onto this pic. I remembered I had an old magazine article on this car, but when I looked at the pic closer, I remembered how the Moon tank sat behind the grille opening, and the injectors sticking out of the hood. I compared it to Kev's pic, and I'm pretty darn sure it's the same car. If you look closely at Kev's pic, you can see part of what appears to be the "Mouse Trap" lettering on the drivers door.

Here's the PHR feature for more info. Awesome car. I wonder what happened to it?

I measured two originals because the repros are not the same and came up with height 10 3/4 to 10 13/16 inches and 8 1/4 inches wide, hope this helps.

Hey Fellas, great thread and awesome photos. I am working on a project for work and would like to learn more about the stock 1937 to 1942 Willys cars. What's the differences between the years and info on the company. I've done a search and really can't find too much info. Is there some old books, magazines or something out there worth finding.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Sean

The photos were shot by Don Lennaker - I believe his last name has two 'n's in it. He lives in Riverside, CA and I bought some Willys parts from him a couple of years ago. He also came to look at a 1940 Willys coupe I had for sale a couple of years back. I believe he still has a '41 Willys coupe he has owned for quite a while. I don't think he is on the HAMB - but he should be.

Keep looking on this thread as there is some good history of the race car period. There are some good sources out there, but not too many. There are a couple of good Gasser (coffee table size) Books out there with more drag race & car history...google them! Here is a bit of history of the Willys company from a sight called Willys on line .com

    http://www.willysonline.com/history.php

All of us that have been Willys guys for a long while, will continue to point out the subtle differences between models, years, etc.., as they turn up on sites like this!
