Does anyone know the reason/history of "Bobtail" race cars? The MILLER gooks good either way, but why did they take the tails off?

I would go with something along the lines of backwards into a fence, or a racecar up the butt.

Paul Gibert Thebaud jr. (the P. G. Thebaud mentioned) happens to be my wife's grandfather. I am not particularly knowledgeable about racing, but I do have quite a few family pictures of him racing cars in the New York area. He lived for many years in the White Plains area. Not sure what cars. I will take a look I do know that he had an ALCO at one time. It would not surprise me at all if he was backing the GJG.

it is there, just slung down low between the rear frame rails.

  22. Bob,

If I remember, Gerber liked his bobtail because it was lighter and he "had more control of the rear of the car". You also weren't trying to look around that tail to see who was behind you/where they were.
