I heard the other day that the chrome plating shops in Albuquerque were extinct...Is this true?? Does anyone know?
I'm going to use a chrome shop in el paso. i hear they do awesome stuff and very affordable. el paso is only like 5 hrs away from you.
Do you happen to know the name of this El Paso chrome shop? I have been looking around and have had a hard time locating a local shop. I have a rear bumper that needs to be rechromed and would much rather have it done locally. thanks
I have a friend who work at Tinta Cantina Tat shop on Central that did some chrome work for TVI when we were students there. He goes by the name of R.J. The shop he used was in albuquerque. God I miss that city,it is god awful here.
How long ago was that? Was the shop called Duke City Plating? Cuz that place ain't there anymore. I hear a lot about the El Paso shop too and I don't know the name of it either...
Mismanagement and "bad habits" burnt a lot of good people. I guess he has been shut down for about a year.
I asked the same question on a local jeep board, and one of the guys works for a 4x shop that sends theirs out. At least there's a local contact, but the shop still isn't local. Sounds like they do good work from the other guys on that board though. Let me know if you want me to track down that name again.
hey guys,,whats up jchav62,, heres a place i found not sure if its still of service its in El Paso,, http://www.chromeblast.com/ Toll Free Number: 1-888-352-1674,,,I'm going to call them tomorrow, I need my front grill chromed don't know if it would be cheaper to chrome or just buy a new one, hey JC you haven't seen or heard of anyone selling parts for my 63 (fenders and wells, supports) let me know ,,thanks
http://www.electroplatingofelpaso.com/ used them a few times... worked out good, will be using him again very soon for some stuff on the 32
Thanks to the EPA there are very few chrome shops left in the US. I'm sure the place in El Paso runs their stuff across the river to get it plated. There are still plenty of craftsman left down there.
Electoplating in El Paso is who I'm using, been real happy with their work, turn around time and price. Even if Duke City was still around you would be better off going out of town, we haven't had good chrome here since the 80's.
They fixed up a hood ornament for me, I think they did a great job in a couple of weeks. It was one of those real wide ornaments for a 41 Ford Comercial, it was pretty pitted, but it came out really, really nice. From what I understand, they do their plating on THIS Side of the border, but I sent the piece to El Paso, didn't go there myself. If you NM guys want to trust me I can get the stuff to and from the plater, I will be happy to help if needed.
i have a good friend in cali who does chrome plating and more I should ask him to open one in alb huh im going to call him I'll even run it for him,,hehe
I haven't used them for chroming, but Kaehr Co. aka The Paint Shop on Candelaria does plating, specialty painting, and powder coating; http://kaehr.com/ Just had a bumper p/c'd there, they do excellent work and reasonable. Ron is the owner, he is easy to work with.
there was a plater at the GNRS set-up, very nice people i think they were out of Texas, but lost their business card, anyone remember who they were? gave me a price on bumpers and turn around time , which was the best i have gotten so far.
BTW, if you need a bumper straightened in ABQ, Collins Collision just did my F-1's front bumper (VERY heavy steel) very nicely and very reasonably. Sandblasted it too. Did it in a day! They are off Edith on Industrial.
Kaehr does not do chroming, just industrial type plating such as zinc and what not.I agree with you,Ron is excellent to work with, great price on the hight level work on the powder coating.
We have a guy out of El Paso that comes to Albuquerque about every 5-6 weeks, fair prices and excellent work.He meets at the Autozone Parking lot on Bridge and 4th at 9:00am to 11:00.His next scheduled visit is 11/27/2011 but contact me to confirm
I will post on this thread next time he will be here or you can call him directly Ramon Luevano 915 851 5504
