I have been thinking on different ways to go with this project. I will not be using any of the original frame or suspension. On the rear suspension I can either go with just a standard length Ford 9" rear, or I can narrow it and put a little wider tires (but not the car has been "tubbed" look) or I have a Corvette rear independent suspension. What dirrection should I go? All of your comments are appreciated.
I have been thinking about breaking all of my own rules and doing something unheard of myself. I have always ran Chevy engines but I picked up a Ford 460 and a C6 trans the other day. So, I asked myself..."Why not??". So, unless I change my mind , it looks like the 38 will be running with Ford.
Hmmm, considering the fact the you have to play with the roofline anyway (nasty dent back there), you COULD have some fun, rid yourself of the hump, and make an Aussie "sloper" out of it!
The death of another old car. No matter, you can do as you like of course, but a better way to go would be to update the ol girl using the original frame with proven modern components and build it full fendered, low and sweet. Would make a really nice driver with an updated suspension and drivetrain. And be much easier than trying to re-invent the wheel and throw together stuff like 460's etc. I have seen a great many projects start like yours and end up sold because it didn't work out, or scrapped.
Mac, thanks for the input. I have been toying with all kinds of ideas on the body...even looked at going topless. Blue One, thanks for your input as well. I guess I should have made this clear in the begining, I only have the body...all the frame and drivetrain goes back to the guy I got the car from...he is just trading out the body to me for some work. I will be building a frame up on this one.
Ah.. That changes things a little. You will still be limited I think with what you can do with a fat fendered sedan body. Not sure I have ever seen one done in any other style than a sort of resto rod or street rod style.
blah, blah, blah, blah! .....I'm bored with this already! Enough talking, when does the work start? I am waiting for the phone call!
Well, I was considering coming down Memorial weekend, but it looks like Racrdad is heading south instead. So any time after that. Why? Are you ready to start on it? This thread is titled "about to start" and that was almost 6 months ago!!! It's time, whats the game plan?
Get yourself another stock frame and build a nice chassis using early style hotrod chassis components. Kinda sounds like you are all over the place. Have you taken on a project like this before? Keep it simple and you will be driving it in a few years. I would suggest sandblasting everything for a fresh start.
