I was at a funeral a few years ago on a Friday and a bloke said he had a couple Willys on his farm.
By the Sunday arvo they were mine for the cost of a slab of beer.

The Holden body 39 Sedan was driven and parked under the pine tree because while they use to drive it down the road the steering arm would fall off and they kept running off the road and into the bushes.

The Aussie Willys sat for 20 years under a pine tree.
The headlight bucket rusted and the headlight fell on the pine needles without breaking and it layed there while sheep and cows walked around it for years and years.

I now have them in my backyard and they are now my prize garden ornaments.
I think it is much better having these than heaps of those little statue things everywhere.

That is the coolest ornament I've ever seen Sammy. I'd keep it inside too.

    Dave,
My wife and I own this 40 sedan now. I bought it for my wife just before Christmas. Not completely original but close. Have a few parts to find to make it right. We have only had the chance to drive it once, that was on Christmas day to the inlaws for dinner. What a blast from the past. Gives you a little perspective of how it was back in the 40's. Once the weather clears up here we will have it out for new pics to post later.

    Ken-

Glad that 1940 sedan is in good hands now, I wanted it but the time is not right for me now. Enjoy it in good health and send more pics when you can.

Guys, please look in your collection or swap meets for a mirror like this. Its one of the last pieces I need for my restoration. Its for a 1940,1941, 1942 Willys. Im sure knowing what I know about Willys that this same item was used in other cars, since Willys didnt make all there own parts.

  14. I never had many pictures of my first willys (bought in 1960), but a friend just scanned the few I do have and I'll try and post them. Drove the car as a stocker until 1962...tore it down to make a race car, and raced until 1967 in D & E Gas. We had a tube rear bumper and could add soup cans full of lead to change classes from D to E/G. Ran a 283 (.60 over) with Hilborn...had tons of fun. Car was a super solid car, but we never painted or finished it. Sold it in 1969 for $695 without the motor. Started life with a Hydro, but after 1 year we switched to a 4-speed (ran much better). Here are a couple of photo's. I'll post a few more when I get them.

Cool G-willys. Nice engine and a 40 to boot, my favorite year. I can't wait to see more.

    HI Wanda.
I got it made down here in Aussie from a bloke that makes them from pictures.
All i done was email him pictures from each angle of my gasser project and he hand made it from the pictures.
It is 14inches long. 6inches high. 7inches wide. Weighs 8lbs. Cost i think was $170.00 AUS plus postage.
I am very very happy with it.
He can make all sorts of things from pictures

    Peter Richardson
phone 011 61 3 55613172 after hours Victoria Aussie time
    email carsculptures@aapt.net.au
If ya contact him then tell him Sammy sent ya his details.

    Dave,
Here are the measurements of the mirror.
    Length is 5 3/4"
    Width is 2 1/2"
Length of stud from center of pivot to end of threads is 2 7/8"
Length of thread is 11/16" and is a 1/2" coarse thread.
Dave, If you need any other measurements you know how to get ahold of me. Hope this helps.

Yes, the car came from Texas. It is in fairly good shape. Like i said in the earlier post. It does need a few things replaced that are not original. I have most of the parts to do so but don't want to start robbing parts from another 40 project to put on this one. We are really looking forward to driving it around town. Most people where i live, will have no idea what it is. When you tell people around here you have willys, they think you are talking jeep. Or they say "i didn't even know willys made cars".

  26. Skip has to be in his 80's now. he used to do these stand up wheelies on the street. He totaled this willy's taking a teen age girl for a bonzai ride on the short Colorado freeway between Pasadena and Eagle Rock. lost it at about 140 on the bridge overlooking the Rose Bowl (wrinkle walls on the street) rolled it several times then slid on the roof for over 600 feet. wore the roof thru and part of the chrome roll bar. only part undamaged was the right rear fender.
his wife divorced him (she had the bank account) short time later the IRS put a lock on the doors of Foothill Speed Shop in Monrovia. I could look thru the windows at the Glass front clip for my 56 Ford. even though I'd paid for it. I never got it. Skip was a good guy and I sure never held it against him but I still don't like the IRS hahaha
