George Schuster was invited to the premier of "The Great Race" by Tony Curtis. When asked what he thought of the movie, he told Curtis, "Not much, that was nothing like the way it was."

Shuster would be gratified to know, there was finally a documentary made, that was true to form about the Great Race of 1908. And the true story of the race is still taught in Springville (NY) Elementary School. Shuster is buried in Springville Cemetary, and there are commemorative markers in the villiage, and his descendants still live there.

There was a 100th anniversary celebration in the town of Springville, commemorating the event. (I was there) At Springvill Elementary, all the students came outside and waved American Flags to9 greet the re-enactment participants, led by a replica of the Thomas Flyer, with George Schuster's great grandson, Jeff Mahl on board for the ride.

1955 was a very good time in New Orleans, much simpler times. Thanks for the pictures.

some of my pictures from the '60s and '70s. first two was out in the sticks north of ash fork az about 1976. the 'vert is a '48 olds body that I rescued then gave to a friend... who then passed it on to another... wonder if it's still around? every thing else was crushed shortly afterwards... then a s.f. post card, then a wallet worn picture of a neighbor's 1930 american austin taken in 1960. the mini picture I tore out of a magazine about 1965. the last two is at mt. wilson (LA CA.) in early '65... or maybe late '64. the topless fiat 600 was a '57 that my dad modified.

Nice post. Just proves there's an asshole born every minute. Glad the mods removed his comment.
