Plum you've got some heavy shots. Thanks, you make it all happen all over again!

  2. I heard in a quest for lightness Pete used very, very light front wheels, and always was one to go with the lightest chassis (read radius rods) anywhere.

All that combine with a vacuum system that was obviously working...well, you know the result. RIP Pete, you were a thinker!

Here is the gear drive Pete developed, everyone else used the 10' chain drive which wrapped around the cam & crank gears. (requiring over an hour to set the timing.)

I've never seen that pic before...thanks for posting it. A couple of years ago, I had a deal to tune a N/TF Cammer for a guy who later on turned out to be a real flake, so the project just kind of died on the vine. But, I did spend a considerable amount of time studying the Cammer, and researching as much of Robinson's work as I could find.
While I could find no functional advantage over the Chrysler (on fuel), I think I sorted through many of the oddities of the engine, and I'm certain I could have made it run right alongside the Mopars. Kinda sucks that I'll never get the chance to find out.
My original question remains though. What actually happened to the motor that was in Pete's car that day? I made an attempt to track its fate, but ran into dead ends every time. Somebody out there must know where this priceless artifact of Drag Racing's golden age is today. It would be an ultimate tribute to Pete and his brilliant career to have it restored and displayed for generations to come. I would volunteer to do the work necessary for free if the opportunity ever presented itself.

Someone who might know something would be Larry Gould of Cammer fame.

Interesting F/C....Chi-Town Hustler, driver was offset to the L, and engine to the R. (very successful car but nobody copied it.)

Throwing a line out there for the West Coast Kats...

This is Dad's A/FD in 1966. Started reading Drag News
about that time, or so 66-74. Keeping up with the class
& every week it was all about Adams & Enriquez, or
Enriquez & Adams Hemi A/FD winning damn near everything.
Then the class went it's way. Pro Comp & all.. etc.

Any A/FD shots of this team or history?
West Coast? Never seen em' on the East Coast.
Just tring to get schooled on a cold night.

thanx for any info - Smoke

  16. Rick,,,thats the best pic Ive ever seen of the Pisano Camaro with the black highlights/accents.And btw,it crashed at OMS Ontario Motor Speedway.
Ive seen a picture of Petes gear drive before, but the pic was taken at a distance without the detail thats shown above,,wow!
And Bert is right about the wheels,,he made them out of aluminum,& sold them to a bunch of racers back then.Had even had small ads in Drag News & such,,Petes Engineering
Thanks to everyone thats contributing to this thread,,,absolutley amazing.

  17. I think only part of that was 1965, actually I know only part of it was because the Ronnie Sox on the trailer shot at the end was from 1967.

I think most of it was from 1966, Dyno and Schartman's cars were from 66 but Landy wasn't in the 66 Dart but Sox was in the 66 Cuda.

Who know, it certainly was cool

Who went over the guard rail, was it Harrop or Faubel?

  18. Went back and checked;it was Bobby Harrop who went over the rail. Nasty looking crash. He was running Ed Schartman's '66 Comet on that pass.

There's a ton of old footage out there now on YouTube;glad to see the contributions. I know how I'm spending most of my Sunday evening.

  26. It's Eschenbaugh Rick. Al Eschenbaugh used to show up at the Fathers Day roadster show with his '32 highboy every year. He ran a blown Chrysler in it with an old Speed Sport scoop on top that was lettered "Steinegger & Eschenbaugh". He said it was an early one they ran on the digger. Al was a cool old guy. Always liked chatting with him. Good stories of he and Larry coming over to San Gabe on Saturday nights and taking the TE check back to Arizona. That happened quite a few weeks in a row as I remember.
