You can bet I'll be there... and for all you first timers,I KNOW the first thing on your mind will be, "Why did I wait so long?" Between free camping, and cheep road food, I can do the trip from the Seattle area (12 hour drive) for less than $600.oo including souvenirs.
casinos arent far away.If you get hungry then eat at the buffet.Or at the other end of town there is a pizza place and a grocery store.I've seen these places on my way to the jigglie room.
I absolutely love this photo I am so excited to go for my first time. Is there anybody stayin at the koa? I didn't know about the bend so we got some spots at the koa. Sent from my iPhone4 using TJJ
I will be there for about three days worth, got a buddy from Tri-Citys Washington that we are going to hook up with. The wives want to go this year (think casino) so it will be mighty pricey I'm sure, I'll have to set up a ice water and shade booth to make ends meet.
Watch out for some of the crazy locals. they HATE Speedweek and HATE Californian's. Had a gun pulled on me at a photo shoot during Speedweek by one of the Wendover meth cooking desert dwellers.
MIKE you should be use to that you live in california..j/k man count me in i will go and hopefully have a hotrod to drive guess i better start building one...
We'll be driving from the Ashland/ Medford area. Driving "the Gow" this year . Headin' out a few days early, through Fallon and Austin, NV for the Alviso Roadsters BBQ before the last 250 miles to Wendover. Very fun drive.
This is exciting to read!!! I can't wait to see that car in person. My 20T will be there, as well. Scary thing is that it's still all in parts at the moment. Last item to get modified is the driveshaft... I'll be pulling out a decent one this weekend to send out. Once it's back I'll be back to assembling, daily.
I don't know what the big deal about sunrise is. Unless you're not sure its going to rise that day. Fortunately I was too busy to notice. [/IMG]
With any luck me and a few of the fella's might make it again. This is one of my favorite shots of last year. Just a bunch of old Ford junk to see!
I sure hope so if i get the 53 Studebaker coupe going i'll take it if not drive a Hertz unlimited mileage the 3,500 miles like the last time longing to see this sign again Thanks to Rich in Washington & Mike in California here's my new used hood for my 53 Studebaker coupe project not having one was my 1st big hang up now for the drive train get a mill & with luck some salt
Awesome Brent!! Sounds like Clayton is planning the drive for 2012. I'll be rolling the T into the shop soon to mount up some new skins then waiting for some hot weather too see how hot/cold she runs.
jiust heard from my uncle in Spokane. He wants to go with me and take his 3 wheeled land sailer. He's riging the sail from his boat for it. Says it should do @50 MPH easy
I went last year for the 1st time & I'm addicted. I had the honor of pushing the 6060 car with Faye. Michelle (driver) set a new World's record @ 182+mph with a 500cc motor in a lakester. I put a posi in with hopes of getting her into the 200MPH class this year. See you and all the Alviso Roadsters @ the Nugget. Don
Hey Mike, I still gotta' get up to your camp spot and beer ya' one too. Hey Don, you were in Austin this weren't you?
Don't I wish, but not in the cards for me. A couple of my bro's are going and are lookin way forward to it. Also going for sure are the South Omaha Boys racing team's 41 Stude coupe which I predict will knock the sox off 200 mph this year. And Nick is goin for it big time with his new build. You can do it dude. Faster pussycat Faster!! ~sololobo~
I'm going for the first time this year, coming down from Portland. I would love to caravan down with someone who is camping at the bend, because Ive never been there and dont want to get scared and confused. The BNI membership includes the camping fee for the bend? I'll be camping in my jeep, should I bring a bicycle or would I be ok driving the jeep out there? (lots easier to lug a cooler around with the jeep than on a schwinn)
I missed last year and I want to go BAD this year!!!! Im having serious salt withdrawls.I fu*#ed up and didnt get any rooms though.I have to find a way to be there,The Real Happiest Place On Earth.
Camping at the bend in the road is free. Spectator admission (last year it was $15 a day or $40 for the whole event) covers driving your jeep onto the salt to get to spectator parking areas, but you will not be allowed to drive in the pits. Bikes, however, are allowed in the pits. It is well worth the effort to bring a bike.
