This is research. He's researching what people want for the MARKET!!! And just for the record... Night Prowlers have some real nice quality stuff.
I used to get a lot of flack from collectors when I was reproducing race posters & decals. I never tried to fool anyone with a repop. Some original stuff is simply priced out of reach for some of us or not practical for use on a daily basis. Original will always be just that, no reproduction (good or bad) will ever take that away. -----------------------------------------------------------------
Some of those aftermarket copies of the plymouth pointed plain hubcap, and a repo of the 53 stude hupcap. The little two bar spinner centers from the sixties that went in your chrome reverse wheels. Bought some good stuff from ya'll.
52-54 ford hood hinges also work on mercs.... only make them better,.... the guy that designed these and the guy that approved the design both need to be punched in the throat...
I used to buy from Gary, congrats on buying Night Prowlers. Hope he is okay. I'd be interested in '54 Studebaker hubcaps, '53 Caddy style caps and an affordable steering wheel from that era that fits on a GM steering column.
Wanna make some cash? Not HAMB friendly but re-pop 1968-69cutlass front fenders. I just gave $2150.00 for a pair of nice original 1969 442 front fenders.
A repo of the outside 58 Edsel mirrors might be a good one. Good condition originals can go for +250 on the evil bay. Might catch on as a custom piece for a reasonable price and add the modern safety factor of "review Mirrors". That's my vote.
Stromberg carbs....oh, already done..... 32 roadster...coupe....already done.....40 Ford coupe....done...56-57 Corvette teeth..done it..."milk truck wheels"...billet....late 40's early 50's Merc's....fiberglass...shrunken heads...dang, ebay. Nope, sorry, there is nothing hot for you to remake. I hear Henway parts are the next big nugget!
I can't believe no one repops '53-'55 or so Stude lower front pans. The ones like every '50s custom uses anywhere from one to four of to change the grille and tail end. Seems like that and the '49-'51 Merc grille shell you could sell as many of as you made if they could be sold for less than good originals bring. Or do they and I wasn't paying attention? Are 54-55 DeSoto teeth that hard to find? I had a whole grille once and it brought $450. Wasn't perfect but wasn't bad. Seems like teeth could be had for $100 or so a shot depending on which one (L, R, or center) and what shape.
How about those old custom "barrel" dash knobs. I remember they were available in solid colors as well as transparent color and of course wood. Another thing that would be cool is the transparent distributor cap. My brothers and I had them on our Chevys and they were available in red, blue, clear, etc... I would love to have one for my 216.
Ian Rousell is repopping them in Cast aluminum. I have a set of 11 teeth that I bought from him that I had polished that I would sell you. Fryguy
