I've loved hot rods since I built them as models as a kid. When my parents got married they had no car so my Grandfather offered to give them a 31 Model A if they would come and get it. They lived in Yakima Wa. and went to Idaho Falls Id. on the train and drove it back. The car was 16 years old then. I have many memories of the car and it was probably the one I learned to drive on. When I was about 12 I used to put posts and wire in the trunk and head out across the pasture to fix fence while my Dad was at work. It had 96,000 miles on the original engine when we rebuilt it in 1966 and I drove it to high school some. It was last licensed in '68. It spent a lot of time parked in the garage. One day in about 1983, I dug it out and drove it some, with a leaky radiator, got it a little too warm, etc. It was parked again until I brought it to California in 1988 took the engine apart in about 1996, (it was froze up), left it in boxes until this winter. There ain't much there. I have a 302 and rear end from a Lincoln, 5 speed from a Mustang and hope to put it together some day. Meanwhile I'm considering finding a running A engine and having some fun driving it around. Anybody got some ideas? I'm new here.
Great intro! Welcome to the H.A.M.B. from Nor Cal and the Cam-Snappers Hot Rod Club! Check out the club group! Love to have ya! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/g...hp?groupid=619
So....I'm thinking to just put the problem engine back together and run it (gently) for a while. At least I could putt around on the back roads and such. What do you think? As an alternative, does anybody know of a stock Model A engine in fair condition for not too much?
Wow. I love hearing about vehicles that are saved by a family member. My 53 Chevy truck belonged to my granddad. It was a parts truck for his 52 GMC. I kustomized the truck from the ground up and it's been my daily driver for 25 years now. Wouldn't have it any other way. It's not pretty, but it runs, drives safely and is almost my trademark in my area. LOL Anyway, Welcome from SW Missouri.
I have seen a few pics of this car and let me tell you all it is the survivor we are all wanting to find so we can build our hot rod! It is a 31 5 window by the way. Welcome to the wild side of town Woffie! Kevin LFD Inc.
Here are the pics of Wolf's "30-A" as of a few weeks ago. His Mom just turned 100, she was 20 when this car rolled off the line!!! Kevin LFD Inc.
