The only rides older than me I've seen here are bicycles. Most people have been driving as long as I have too haha. It's crazy how they drive here. Organized chaos. China's in their Model T phase - a car for every home.

The Thailand T, the Phuket Bucket. Sounds awesome haha.

    一点点...a little

Show us some Chinese hot rods, any pictures? Even custom rickshaws?

  7. There would be if I was there but no one would know what I was calling them.

One of the fellas from up North just came back from there. he was working for a mining company or something as I recall.

I was in Shanghai 17 years ago for a few days. at that time the road construction was unbelievable. and the bicycle traffic was undescribable.
I was also north in Tsing Tao. they were building roads and gas stations like crazy.
I am sure there is now at least 500% more cars.

Believe me, I've kept my eyes peeled for anything (to post). China's nothing like Japan and its scene, where my sister even got me a Baby Ratfink keychain when she went haha

Been to Shanghai twice. Last time in September. Didn't see any hot rod activity. The traffic was crazy. First time I saw a Buick Lacrosse was in Shanghai Feb. 09. Thought it was a GM China only car until I returned and realized Buick was trying to sell them here.

  11. Actually I believe it was made there, and no that's not a joke. yes guy's some new Buick's are made in China

Keep it clean and on topic guys. No political pot-shots or the mods will kill this thread.

  13. it's illegal to drive a car over 8 or 10 years old in China...may even be illegal to own one actually...this is not a joke or a pop at China either

I just wonder if they go into auto parts stores there and complain about pimply faced kids that don't know anything about cars, only computers, who only want to sell them over-priced, crappy parts made in the USA?

Member deucegarage is in China, I think Shanghai. More active on Ford Barn than here.
MAJOR researcher and guru on Model B Fords. Working as an engineering consultant I think.
I was born in Nanking during the revolution, my Father's brand new 1948 Ford that I still have was delivered to us via Shanghai Ford. We left before the HAMB China organization was founded...
I'd certainly love to know what is on the Shanghai Ford site today! I'm sure it's a gigantic apartment or warehouse by now, but I still imagine a dusty, boarded-up building with an attic full of NOS early Ford parts!

Hmm, does this go for motorcycles too? Many years ago, like over 10 years ago, dateline or some show like that did a show on American's living over in China. One guy was someone that owned a vintage motorcycle shop. Bought, sold, restored, etc. Showed him out riding one around.

I was in Shangai, Suzhou & Wuxi about 10 yrs ago. Had a GREAT time, really like it. The traffic in the cities is SCARY, but you get just a little ways out of the city, and there are all these brand new freeways with hardly anyone on them, although that has probably changed by now. No car scene, but I would be willing to bet that will change in time. If you have money in China, those laws are meaningless.
And can we PLEASE keep all the anti-China rhetoric off this thread? We have all heard it a hundred times, and its way beyond getting old.

I've been thinking about China for a while now. I'm willing to bet that over the next couple of years the desire and market for traditional American culture is going to explode over there, and I'd like to be in on the ground floor. There's nothing more American than the Hot Rod, no sport more American than Drag Racing. This is a population that is only now just discovering the automobile in a big way. A BILLION+ people...how many of them are potential enthusiasts. The guys who make this connection with the Chinese people are going to become rich beyond imagination.

Haha, that's unbelievable now. The freeways now look like Southern California's.

Wifes cousin lives/works in China. Loves it. Makes stupid money too. If I had the money I'd love to go and visit him. The culture simply fascinates me.
