I remember the day he almost got it up on it's top at 42, the story claims it was in 75,, seems like a couple years ago in my mind. JC

This is at Bakersfield 1966. Looks like the same car, but I don't think it is George Van.

Naa, I don't think it's Hoover. He ran the cammer then switched to the late model hemi for a couple years. His car also had the swoopy tail. By 70 he was in the White Bear Dodge Funny Car. I just talked to him and his wife at the Grand showing photo shoot of the new Showtime Corvett Nostalgia FC. :D

Love se'in the pic of my local strip.
I worked at a couple of Pure Oil company stations, the Groat Brothers (wrecker in the picture) sold Pure Gas back in the day. Just a tow service now.

Excuse the off topic post but here is their station in a Pure Corporate picture from my collection.

  27. I'll add to that. Thats not Hoover in that pic. His last front motored cars were Woody cars, and from the looks of it that isnt.... As stated, he ran a SOHC starting in '67 or so, but an early model Chrys in the beginning...but those were short early model cars. Never with Thompson ribbed covers and breathers like that that late in the game... That picture is ringing a bell as to which car it is but i just cant put my name on it..and i specifically remember the faded freak circle paint job and the DRAG NEWS decal...shit..maybe some sleep will help...
