    go ahead!!!

  2. Starting to come together man . Stay at it and you may be rolling into town this summer . What a pile of work . My 2 c as well , I say lose the badge . Maybe try to incorperate it into the dash somewhere . That way people will see that it is a Monarch when they look at the inside of your ride. Just a thought ???

make a place for it in the trunk or built into the rear panel that separates the seat and trunk compartment. AFTER all you will never take THIS car and fill the trunk at the junk yard will you?

    page 47 for da 47 :D

you've asked for, so i say "shave that trunk !" we don't really care how rare is that emblem as long as it interrupt the flow of your trunk ! I can understand you wanna do something with it , and putting on your dash, or firewall could do the trick :D

How about frenchit or sink ituntil it's flush sort of. And lower it 8" to 10". Are you going to french the lic. plate in mid lower trunk lid?

I personally like the Monarch emblem, and while shaving trim was obviously done in the day, most of the old magazine cars I've looked at had at least some trim on them, the totally shaved/no chrome look is more of an 80's revival look to me.

Consider making the emblem stick out from the trunk a half inch somehow so you could mount the license plate light behind it. Then it's functional and not just tacked-on gingerbread.

Hmmm you gave me an idea ! The license plate is going on the bumper ...I have to make some kind of plate/light bracket, the emblem could possibly hide the light gotta do some thinking now !

If you want a good Gbody frame around here ya gotta buy a decent solid car, they rusted away years ago, I looked for one but could not find one that was usable...

Thanks Rik ! I think I can do something with the trunk emblem as a license plate frame/light assy thanks to Squablows idea...I knew it didnt really fit the theme of the car but I needed to be told! Hey thanks again for the pics eh !

Its only metal, if you mess it up weld it back together and start again ! I would love to own an early Riv someday...its on the dream list

  14. Not sure what your planning on doing for a grill but you might be able to work the emblem into a custom grill treatment.

Got this week off,had to use up some holidays, what better way than heading out to the shop eh!

It was time to get the door bottoms fixed and I decided to eliminate the outer rocker panel and extend the door bottom downwards, eliminating one more seam on the car...since I dont have a proper brake (someday) I decided to try something a little different, Starbird built alot of cars with steel rod so I wanted to try it out...

I cut off the piece of rocker and tacked a piece of tubing to give me a level surface between the quarter panel and bottom of the a pillar

I then taped a piece of 1/4 rod to the tubing ,cut away all the rot and started to add some new metal..

The inside and bottom of the doors are pretty rotten , the outside was the easy stuff

cleaned it all up and some more weld thru primer

I still have to fix the inside bottom under the hinge, but cant do it till I take the door off again.

I like the look I think it will give a bit of illusion to the car looking lower..

I also tweeked the front of the quarter a bit to flow with the door.

The gap along the lead edge of the door was pretty tight, it opened and closed ok but may not have with paint and primer on it so ...

I cut it open ,opened up the gap and welded it all back together again dont know if you can see the difference with the crappy light in the shop

It was also time to fix the fit of the fender to the bottom of the cowl, when I first patched it there was nothing left of either so I just eyeballed it...

And finally a shot of the new profile ! On to the other side to do it all over again ! I also finshied every bit of welding on the pass door that had to do with the chop and all the trim holes, so as soon as I finsh under the hinge it can be blasted and primed.

Week off?? Wish I could do the same.Your door bottoms are shot!!! Man there mint!! You have the inside lower corners.lol many of the early cars had door gaps that were not the best. The F100 trucks were bad for this. Looking good Steve

  22. The things we do for these old cars eh kemp? I agree it looks better and will flow better with the overall theme of smooth . I am jealous that you have all this time available to you out in the shop !!! And all I get is my meager 1 day a week . Its looking good though stay with it man . later , Andy..

I would have more done but my damn back is limiting me to about 2 3 hrs shifts per day, I may try more pain killers to get a little longer out there tomorrow ....but GizmoJoe will give me shit for doing that !

I feel guilty for having such a rust free '46 & the fact that I've actually got less done than you.

Well get to work rid yourself of the shame :D I looked at a 41 Tudor project from California with a buddy the other night ( not that I could afford it) it doesnt need 1 single patch was even a runner but the knob sold the flatty ! I hope he sells it cause he was talking about a g body clip sbc street rod, I dont mind using newer stuff with a piece of crap like mine but it would be a shame to cut it up, I am trying to convince my buddy he needs it lol.

Thanks Rich ! All the positive feedback is a great motivator for me as well!

  29. So the 1/4 rod became the bottom "roll" of the door panel? I know that's a novice question, but I'm watching and trying to learn. My Ranchero is going to need work like this so I'm taking notes.

Great work btw. Hope you back gets better soon.

Is the new wiring in the shop working out ok?
