I really do wish I could be there to help. Fell in love with NZ via KIRK! and his coverage of AmeriCARna a couple years ago. I was super impressed with the folks and the culture there.
Prayers to all of you over there!

  9. Terrible news reports coming in , hope all Hambers and there family and friends are safe , Good Luck , you are in our thoughts , cad

  10. I have been following on the internet, very sad times indeed. All of my family live at the other end of the country so it's not affecting them. Like Skip said, sure makes you feel helpless.

My prayers go out to all those down there. If you have family or friends there, know we are praying for them.

  13. The two Aussie rescue crews have arrived and the first 10 tons of food are on their way. hang in their guys.

A friend of ours was leaving today for her sister's 50th birthday - they're OK but travel is obviously not an option.

Christchurch has a population of around 400,000, still about 80% without water, power, or sewerage. A lot of the services were "patched up" after the September quake and were still awaiting proper repair.

  18. Thoughts are with you guys.

  19. I have a friend in Christchurch that I met here on the HAMB and ship parts to him when I can...Jill and Pete I hope you are okay, as well as the rest of the population

California Task Force 2 is a specially-trained and equipped Urban Search and Rescue team with 74 members, consisting of firefighters, paramedics and rescue specialists; along with emergency room physicians, structural engineers, heavy equipment specialists, hazardous materials technicians, communications specialists and logistics specialists.
The team responds with 55,000 pounds of prepackaged search-and-rescue tools and medical equipment. Personnel can conduct around-the-clock search-and-rescue operations at domestic and international disasters, both natural and man-made. The team received the request for assistance from the U.S. Agency for International Development, and was staging today at the fire department's USAR facility in Pacoima. The team will be sent to Christchurch when officials receive clearance for air travel.

THANK YOU AUSTRALIA and the USA!

Good to hear you are safe Rustee - survival stories like yours are spine tingling. Be assured that the rest of NZ is right behind you.

  23. No... wrong island.

  24. I live in the other island, but I grew up in Christchurch. I became a hotrodder in Christchurch.
Watching all the devastation, seeing familiar landmarks disappear, and hearing the stories of despair and grief has saddened me more than I thought possible. The one consolation is that my best mate who lives there is OK, as is his family.
To all the countries sending search and rescue teams and offering financial support, our heartfelt thanks.

  25. Starting this thread is a big help, Thank you.
This affects us all, even if we dont live locally.
Watching on the tv, and catching up with our friends and loved ones there, is a moving expieriance.
Theres proberbly not many kiwis who dont know someone who lives there.
Having fellow Hambers sending their support messages helps proberbly more than you can know.

    Russ Tee, glad you ok.
Caught up with Gonk, he finally made it over, and i think he will be looking after his old mum for a while.

Theres rumour going around about this side of the island getting one next month?

  26. My thoughts, are certainly with all the people over there, that are having to deal with this horrible tragedy.

things are still looking pretty grim down there its going to be a long hard road I'm afraid, search and rescue is still going on and the list of missing is still in the hundreds, Kiwi's all over are opening their homes and their wallets to do what they can. Has anyone heard from Lindsay (kiwihellrod) ?
    Stay safe Gonk.
