The engine is a story in itself. I do an update on the drivetrain once all the parts come in. its a 1965 289 stoked to 331. I Just had my machinist order an inglese webber system for it, along with a matching roller cam.

Thats funny, I thought the same thing.

    Very cool.

If you do a hood scoop out of Plexiglas, like the old Ferrari's, that would be super cool.

Seeing that wooden buck running the entire length of the car is making me giddy. You can see the shape of the car taking place but in reality, the body work hasn't even started.

The wooden buck truly is the literal picture of the saying; "So close, yet so far."

Argh. I know you can't rush perfection but.. Hurry up! Subscribed!

Matt, glad to help, this is a really cool project.

After re-reading the post it occurred to me that heating plexi in a home oven that is in your home is a bad idea, the stuff stinks a bunch. Best to use a cheap old previously employed home oven in your shop. Also, you may need to dry the sheet before heating and forming as it will absorb moisture from ambient air. Overnight in the oven at 110-120 F will do the trick. Without drying the sheet can bubble during forming impacting clarity of the plexi.

A used (or free on Craigslist) home oven can also be used for powder coating. The burners don't have to work, I've seen several for cheap-to-free with one or more bad burners but a good oven. Get an electric one of course unless you have gas in the shop, and put it near an exhaust fan. Many ovens vent up through a back burner or something, so you can pipe off that.

It's hard to get an oven to keep that low a temp though, I tried to dry some sausage in an oven at about 120* F and it worked okay if I kept the door open a trifle and the oven on the lowest setting. Door closed, it heated to 140-150* even on lowest thermostat setting.

  18. Matt,
New to your build so excuse me if this has come up or you've thought it through... I'm assuming you're going to race (or at least thrash on) it. It seems like the wheel to body clearance might get kind of tight in a corner with the front suspension compressed and the wheel turned. It looks like you have plenty of height but the inner surface of the fender seems close to where the inside edge of the tire would be with some steering lock on.

Again, apologies if I'm beating a dead horse or you've checked it out.

  19. I would say it has a lot more class than a Cobra, I was just messing with you. I'm on the bandwagon with everyone else in awe of your work.

    Doc.

PS, Can I have it when its finished??

  20. This thing is gonna be amazing! Opening these threads is a little nerve wracking though! I keep half expecting to see KIRK! sprawled over the fender looking "guilty". :D I still have an involuntary tick in my minds eye after he showed all of us the leather he was "using" in the Legion special.

I do plan to race it, I really want to do pikes peak. It has enough room, you just can see well in the pics.

I know your messing around, yes you can have whats left of it.

well Im going to use vinyl in this car, not leather. so just for you Ill dress Kirk up in the naugahyde, maybe like your Avatar.

  25. Okay, that is just putting the most WRETCHED visions in my head :D!!!

    Matt,

Thanks as always for your threads- this is really getting me excited about getting my speedster further along this summer!

One question though. I'm going to be making a buck for the body, but am struggling with getting the taper of the tail correct. Does anyone have a book they recommend for building bucks?

    Thanks again, Bill

subscribed! That's some SBF porn right there! A mag and those killer valve covers. I have never seen Offy valve covers for a SBF before like that.

WOW! This is going to be a great built to follow, I can see OSCA and Birdcage shapes in there.
