Projects Rusty 47 Ford Reserection

  1. I like what you did with the door bottoms. Its all those little touches that add up to make a great finished product. I'm liking the profile by the way, I think you got the proportions just right.

Yep, the door bottom has an arch to it, and I dont have a brake or shrinker/strecher, and I was wondering how this would work so I decided to experiment, its super strong and there is still some space between the inner and outter panel where they meet. I drilled some drain holes on the inside skin and covered everything in weld thru primer as well . After the bodywork is done I will skirt it full of some type of concoction to prevent further rust. I finished the driverside outside skin today it went much quicker (2nd one always does ) .Should have the rest of that door finished tomorrow.

Thanks Steve !It worked out better than I expected it to, was half expecting to be cutting it all off and starting over lol. The one thing I like about it is there is no folded seam on the bottom now to trap moisture .

Where ya been hiding?, hopefully getting some time in on the T  Its great having some real electricity finally, no more stealing the dryer plug from the Missus and tripping breakers in the house . The backs still about the same, I have found that doing a 2-3 hr "shift" then resting inside for a while and coming back at it cuts down the pain quite abit I wont take more than 1 of the new painkillers a day they make me feel crappy if I do. I cant believe that welder is still chugging away, that noise still comes and goes I dont worry about it anymore when it dies it dies !

    Hey koolkemp,

Your build is moving alot of people to rethink what's buildable!

On the sheetmetal brake & shrinker/stretcher issue..........have you ever clamped sheet between two pieces of plywood or MDF and hammerformed them to shape? This is a great way to produce low-buck sheetmetal parts from some ply, clamps, a wooden mallet, a corking tool (wood or plastic) and some sheetmetal. You can form highly shaped parts using this method as well as rockers and lower skirt sections. Whenever I need a part with little or no shape I usually go the route vs. repop + shipping costs for a part that doesn't always fit as it should.
Check the search deal ,here on the HAMB for hammerforming & also the online metalshaping sites like metalshapers.org.

" Humpty Dumpty was pushed "

  6. I used the hammerform methods with great success on new panels between bumper and car.

Hidin? Sorta. I've had 1 1/2 months of being really sick. Then mom was hospitalized with a nasty pneumonia. So I've had little to no time or energy. Been a rough year so far.
But between the sick days I did manage to make a simple stand for the body, get a sub-frame from a phaeton chopped up to fit and mocked up the body.
Oh.. and the chassis is mocked up but rolls.

Glad the new wiring is working... for you AND her. ;)

Keep worrying about the welder and it will keep working. ;)

2-3 hr shifts is reasonable. Gives you time to "reflect" on things anyway. It's a whole lot better than not being able to walk because of the pain. Trust me.
You have to adjust or pay for it in the long run.

    Keep on keepin on!

    Incredible job Steve.
I've used rod to outline hidden parts before but it seems to work well on an exposed edge too.
Might end up doing the same thing to form my rear wheelwell lips on the Dodge.
Thats gonna be a bit of a head scratcher right until I actually start on it!!!

Hope both you guys start feeling better ASAP.
The snow this year is crappy enough without being sick or sore on top of it!

You're an inspiration. This is exactly what drew me to the HAMB. I need to get out in the garage and get busy!

I have never done anything with a hammer form yet...I could have tried it for the center splash pan on the rear , but what I did instead was make a cardboard template, traced it on the tin and cut it out leaving enough to fold over for the edges, used a small adjustable wrench to fold the edge and finished it up with a hammer and dolly...it went pretty quick, faster than it would have taken me to make the hammer form lol. I dont have much in the way of wood working tools, and am pretty impatient when I want to get something done . I will need to make one for something someday I know that for sure cause I do want to experiment with them. I will probably make some flush fit skirts and am contemplating a few different options right now. I havent even assembled the E wheel I got a couple of months or so ago ..who has time to put tools together when the car needs work ! But I will need that for the skirts.

Thanks Bill I am pretty happy with how it turned out, I finished the drivers door today and it went together pretty quick and looks great and is super strong. We went out to Chads for dinner(Nadines B'day and mine on Sat) so its too late and I am too tired to post post pics tonight I took a few pics at his place too.

Well at least we are suffering together eh Joe ! I am glad you are getting something done, post a few pics up here in my thread if you want!

If you are asking me if I can sew the answer is no ,but I do know an upholsterer , gonna use the s10 bench for now and whatever I can cobble together for a back seat, its a long way from looking fancy on the inside I will be happy with some insulation and wood or plastic door panels!
