Sorry if this has been covered but my search came up with nothing.
I have a 46' International that I am working on and want to swap the front suspension to a Mustang II. Not being able to get a kit all at once, i'm gonna piece it together. As I find deals on the components that is.
My plan is to order the crossmember from Fatman Ind. They have one for my truck. So that is what I will start with. So my question is what other parts are needed to complete my front suspension so that I have a rolling ch***is again. I plan to have power steering. I have read that all the different Mustang II parts are interchangable. If this is true, I can buy what I need as I find good deals.
Is it as simple as, Upper and lower A arms, springs and shocks, steering rack, drop spindles and brake setup? What am I missing?

Doesn't look like you're missing much.

bushings, ball joints, steering joints, etc

If the crossmember is placed high enough on the frame, you won't need dropped spindles.

You probably want to go with an 11 inch disk brake setup, using GM calipers.

    It adds up.

If you're using stock type control arms you will have to use struts. If you're running tubular type control arms, I believe it elliminates the struts. If you're going stock type control arms, all the replacment bushings and whatnot are available at any decent parts stores.

True about the package deal...... it's cheaper plus you dont have to hunt down all the parts.

Good move, you can't beat the MII for the ability to upgrade. Fatman has a mounting bracket so you can bolt a GM caliper right on. I used a late 70's Firebird disc brakes on my '37 Plymouth. Also, the GM rotor will fit on the MII spindle, but you will need Fatman's bearing kit. Don't forget to use the stabilizer struts off the original MII, which you will need if you are not upgrading to tubular A arms.

My thought was to order the correct xmember and maybe get lucky for some of the parts. But maybe I will just save to buy the whole kit. Are some better than others?

just got in all my M2 stuff for my 54 ih today. i added up the costs and im sitting round 800 in so far. i have crossmember, hats, rubbers, ball joints, bearings, 5 bolt rotors, springs, 2in drop spindles, rack and pinion, powering steering pump, pulley, and shock (i think LOL) . Only thing im missing is A-arms. waiting on word if a guy wants to sell his stock ones or if im gonna have to go the tubular route. either way its about 200 more so that about a grand. for another 2-5 hundred i could have had it come chromed out and ***embeled. I understand where your coming from tryin to save. i almost bought a rack and pinion (2 1/2 turns to lock) from speedway 225 shipped then found my local parts store had one same one for 75 shipped. there are deals out there. just my 2c

Iron maiden How about using the Jag front end from the donor car for the rear? Your going about the Mustang II deal in a pretty expensive way, and in my OPINION, you could look to a much better thought out crossmember kit. I happen to know of a shop that has a pile of Fat Man cross members in it's s**** pile. You do have the track width for the Jag unit too... Just a thought.

If you are installing the cross member and welding it in isn't it a wise thing to tack it in and check all the parts for fitment before you do all final welding?

Correct! Even kits from one supplier can be wrong. And there is nothing worse than wheels not centered in the wheel well, or the rack hitting the frame, too high, to low, or not being able to get correct camber/caster/wheel track, Upper a arms hitting the spring cup, on and on and on......

This is an old thread. I'm using a Jag front and rear in my truck. Front is pretty much done. Rear will be done soon.

Just a suggestion -- You should edit the ***le of the thread, or maybe start a new one, because it says MII, and now it is about Jag IFS. Guys not interested in MII, but who want to read about Jag IFS aren't going to read it.

Did you read anything above? This is an old thread. Someone brought it back to life. I have since moved a different direction and responded saying so. Also posted links to the "New" threads I already started.
    ?????????
If I knew how, I would delete this thread.
