The Prius is such a joke, it's by a huge margine the least eco friendly car in the world, and that's just in the manufacturing end of it, once they are built they get worse mileage then my 28 year Old*******, and they have a life span that is very short even if you take good care of them. I'll stick to my vintage cars thank you, the environmental impact from their manufacture is already been reabsorbed and dealt with, they are rebuilt using used scrounged parts, and they can quite often be set up to be fairly good on gas! My 46 Ford bus gets better mileage then my neighbours SUV and it can haul 25 passengers...:p

The cab has some weld over the drivers door towards the rear and it needs a drivers door, the old farmer that pulled the body off the chassis 35 years ago to make a farm wagon was actually really careful not to mess it up, unbolted everything and tucked the clip away where it was off the ground and safe, but as he was moving the cab it slipped and got a bit of damage, but it's not too bad, that that clip is really nice! How often do you hear about a farmer trying not to mess up the body of a used POS truck he is making into a wagon? He gave me the body plus 10 other cars for free!

may be building this truck for a friend of mine, but he likes GM bodies, so if I don't use the Fargo there, I will find a different use for it, it's too good to ignore!

Hello I love this tread here I can read for days.
I have a 1941 Ford COD car hauler with a tiny sleeper.
I was so lucky to pick it up in South Carolina last year.
This car was restored back in 1979 / 1980 of two brothers and have been on several car shows back in the early 80: Street rods unlimited Chaleston SC Sept 81, Swamp Fox old car show March 1983, 3rd Annual Rod for fun in the sun Murili Beach SC 1981, Early Wheels Fun Sunday March 28 1982 etc.
Unfortunately the builder and owner past away for a couple of years ago, so the second brother and the widow sold it to me and they did not know so much of this car.
I try to get some more information and history of this COE
If there is somebody who know something or have some old photos or anything it will make me very happy
    Please send me a PM
    Best regards FORD COE 1941
    Have a good COE day

WOW! That's one beautiful old COE tow truck!!!

  10. If the COE you own is the one in your avatar pic I remember seeing it at the Charlotte Auto Fair. It was parked for sale almost straight across from the HAMB Village.

I admired the truck because I have a '47 COE I'd like to build into a vintage race car hauler.

If I remember correctly, the one in Charlotte captured my attention because it was still on the original frame with a stock Ford front axle with later Chevy truck drum brakes and the Chevy(?) engine in the stock location.

The period correct sleeper was an added plus.

After seeing this truck I was convinced that using the stock chassis was a better way to go than using a later one. Foot pedal room for the driver is real tight. But a strong 400+ c.i. SBC would fit right in there under the original dog house and provide plenty of power for the intended purpose.

I wish I had more info about it, but I only know what I saw.

This is something that anyone looking for a COE needs to check out when they are looking at them, I am 6 foot 2 and have size 17 feet, so when I****-tested a 47 Ford COE I could barely get one foot in the foot well, and the unusual pedal arrangement would have required me to drive in my socks. LOL

Also tried a snub nose 56 Chev and had too little foot room, once I tried a 56 Mercury COE and it had a heck of a lot more room, barely less then a pick-up, and that's the one i own now.

    Hey LN7 NUT
If you still have a line on the 47 COE, ping me an email. I am looking for a 38-47 and willing to sacrifice the foot room

I think the only way you can get decent legroom in any of these COE's, especially the 38-47 Fords is to put the engine behind the cab and eliminate the doghouse entirely. That's what I'm going to do with mine, plus you get the added benefit of getting the heat out of the cab. I can't imagine how uncomfortable those old trucks were to drive on long hauls. The driver's feet had to be toast on a hot day!

It was owned by a rich truck collector who everyone said would never sell anything, but he was happy to deal with my dad and I for some reason... he passed on last year sadly and everything disappeared, I heard about the auction 6 months later, I hate it when people keep that sort of thing a secret.

So I don't know where it is now, but I do know where there is a 46 Dodge, late 40's Karrier, and a chopped and sectioned 51 IHC, and if I ask around I bet I could locate more.

I also found a really nice looking 51 IHC COE sitting in the back of a farm yesterday, going to go and check that out!

Feel free to send me a message, I'm not that far from you, (up by Leduc) so if there was something up here you wanted I can usually deliver (that's what I do!)

I forgot I took this, it's a*****py through the windshield shot while driving my 31 Pontiac last summer, the random traffic on my road is pretty epic sometimes!

I thought Randy Clark from Hot Rod Custom Stuff had something to do with it or it was at least posted on his website.

I haven't been there in a long time because it wasn't being updated. I just looked, his website is totally different now but couldn't find it.

Can anyone tell me how many 4X4 Chevy COE's were made from 48-54?

No record was kept, of any 4X4 COE's, or any Chevy truck for that matter in those years. 4X4 trucks were not a Factory option back then. A potential buyer had to special order this option from a Dealer, the said Dealer would job truck out for a conversion from Companies like Coleman, Napco etc.
