I have been trying to talk my wife into a tri-five Chevy wagon for years but she doesn't want one. She has a VW diesel. I guess I can't ***** it gets 42MPG which is 3 times what my F250 Diesel gets. My solution when the fuel prices go north is to ride my Harley to work which gets 45 MPG.

  2. Hobbies generally aren't reasonable. Especially not Hot Rod cars, boats, airplanes, skydiving, etc. Hell...even my cycling hobby was unreasonable. My bike was worth more than some people spend on cars.

    Gas Math:
I work probably 235 days a year. Round trip is 30 miles. That's 7050mi/yr (work related) I get about 18mpg average. This means that I'll buy roughly 391gal/yr to perform this task of making it to work.

    391gal @ $3/gal = $1173/yr
    391gal @ $4/gal = $1564/yr

Difference of $391/yr per $1/gal price increase.
Or roughly for every $1/gal increase it costs me $1/day.
It takes me approximately 2 minutes of any work day to earn $1.

As much as I hate to pay more for anything you're not going to see me get terribly upset about $1 or even $2 increase on a gallon.

  3. Alive is good, no better excuse to enjoy yourself.

Its not only the Corvette guys here the MOPAR Muscle car guys are just as bad. I guess I don't care to be around either as a rule. But I do have to say they are not all bad. I think I forget that the ones that are alright are members of the elite club.

I have never cared for working in the service industry, in any fasion. I guess I like to be able to pic the people that I cater to. I don't know how you do it, you're a better man than I.

Our first "family car" was a 55 Chevy Bel Air Wagon we bought in 1989. It was fun for awhile but we finally broke down and got a new Astro van about '96. I've always had and always will have old cars. I have two cars now that are older than me. But we've also always had a new or newer car as well. it's the old right brain, left brain thing.

New cars are better than old cars in pretty much every way that can be measured, and old cars are better than new in all the ways that can't.

Well, I like the first, because it's a good description of me as well....

Oh yeah, I forgot this part about my wife, who also hauls my child....

  10. Well then we should get along just fine. ;)

  11. Sorry Steve. Not trying to get political. Certainly not advocating Toyota's. I've just found Aveo's to be %100 imported and very poor cars from a repair side. I'd much rather drive a Cobalt and get slightly worse mileage. While all cars with timing belts require service, it seems the Aveo's really don't last long

i work for Audi, we sell the least sensible group of automobiles short of Ferraris IMHO. well; at least a Ferrari will get you a BJ... sensible after all.

we do simple services that cost almost as much as a reman short block Chevy.... we sell brake services that would buy a decent disc brake swap... and we do it OFTEN. we tow in six to eight cars a week with failed ignition, blown CVT transaxles, fried mechatronic ecms....

i won't buy an Audi OR a VW.

One whole day without a random check engine light, abs light, or flukey fuel gauge...yes, it's better than a 12 year old VW.....of course, the car itself wasn't the point of my post, I was aiming at the way people like us look at cars, and what they mean to us.....
