been on a bit of a book buying binge...anyone seen a copy of "The Boyhood Photos of Lartigue"

my copy just hit my desk. it is unbelievable. All those great pictures of his are in there, with his personal notations. The images are individual pictures, just like a real photo album.

"Jacques-Henri Lartigue was a mere seven years old when he began taking his first photographs. This extraordinary collection of his work is a rare glimpse into everyday life in Europe during the Gilded Age. Though Lartigue would necessarily be classified an amateur photographer at such a young age, there is a sophisticated youthfulness about each of the images, creating a perfect harmony between Lartigue’s eye on the world as a wondrous child, and the technological advancements made at the turn of the 20th century. Like many little boys of the Belle Époque, automobiles, airplanes, and racing cars fascinated him, but he also had a tender and perceptive eye for the personalities, idiosyncrasies, and hobbies of his friends and family. The sepia-toned photographs are presented just as one would arrange a family album. Events are intermingled with snapshots, portraits, and personal captions to create a nostalgic and touching volume on prosperous European life before the outbreak of World War I. "

  29. I just received this in an email today.

The GRIM side of early auto racing. (Most of in pre 1944)

(If you don't like wrecks, don't watch.)

    May 21,1937 Indy 500 signature...
I was going through some personal archives of Cliff Henderson, the long-time General Manager of The National Air Races from 1929-29, and came across a 1937 signed letter. The letter has a silver colored heading with "Silver Anniversary 500 Mile Race." It is nicely signed by "E.S. Dallenbach, secretary to T. E. Myers." There is quite a bit of info on "Pop" Myers, the Longtime Indy 500 General Mgr. But I don't see much when I google E. S. Dallenbach. I'm guessing there was some relationship between E. S. and the later Wally. Does anybody know more?
