Though we go to several local swap meets and such my wife and I like to take Dad and Mom and our kids (now in their 20s) to a big car show every year. We are located in Crossville Tennessee so distance is an issue. In the past we have been going to the Turkey Rod Run in Daytona about 10 hours away for Thanksgiving. Lisa asked today if I wanted her to reserve our rooms for this year as she was sure I would want to drive the 53 down. I thought I would see what you guys suggest first.

Things that are important to us.

    Lots of pre 1960 cars.
    Family atmosphere.
    Nice Lodging.
    Good food.
    Late Summer or Fall

Ten hours in a car with my family and someone would be getting left at a gas station.

The first Friday cruise in Gadsden Alabama is always a lot of fun. Year round. about 300 cars , 100 motorcycles...and 50 street venders , all on a Friday afternoon.

    Louisville,Ky Beatersville,Beatersville and Beatersville !!!!!!!

  16. Charleston, West Virginia hosts the Boulevard Rod Run & Doo Wop October 6-9, 2011. There is a cut-off at 1000 entries, so pre-registration is wise. The show was featured on Dennis Gage's "My Classic Car" tv series a couple of years ago. Great venue, family atmosphere, free nightly concerts, seminars, burn-out and flame thrower contests, swap meet, special events for the ladies, model car contest, etc. Pre-registration is $25 and gets you an event t-shirt, special BBQ dinner on Thursday night, dash plaque and admission to all special events. Check out the website: www.charlestonwvcarshow.com

Beatersville is great, especially if you're into the whole 'Kustom Kulture' deal, pinup contests, etc. Plus our club hosts a pre-show party/bbq/sleepover in Louisville...

The Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green ROCKS...

The Road Rocket Rumble in Indy is cool, 3 day show and you have to be registered at the show to get a room at the Clarion, again, pinup contest, etc. Probably my one of my favorite shows though... Tom, Naomi and the rest of the Road Rockets are real honest to God "car guys",

Frog Follies is also a great show with a FANTASTIC swap meet, but it is a pre-48 show... just so ya know.

If I could only go to ONE show this year it would be a toss up between the Hot Rod Reunion at Bowling Green or the Road Rockets show...

Hunner Car Pileup (Oct. 8th) in Decatur, IL. I know it's early summer, but the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green is a ton of fun.

Never been to the shades in pigeon forge tenn. but have always thought about it.
We have been to the Grand Rod Run,there in the smokies(one in the spring and one in the fall) sevral times and always enjoy it as there is something there for everyone.
The actual show and swap meet (mostly new parts)is at the grand hotel but I only paid to go inside it once even tho I have stayed there during it.
No need to, as cool cars cover the whole strip on both sides (thick) for I guess at least a couple miles or more.
Its a huge event not to mention all the attractions that are already there year around to start with.

I'd vote for the Frog Follies, too! Super nice hosts; good, cheap food; laid back, family atmosphere; tons of cars to see; great small "big" town in Evansville. Gotta do it at least once - but if you do, you'll be back.
