Is that the correct box and rear fenders for 53? I thought they started that in 54?

What makes it a Deluxe cab?

I own several nice 52's, quite fond of them!

HA! I never thought of it that way, but it is a Chevy passenger car front end grafted to a Hudson cab and bed on the modified Hudson frame. It was built in the 70's and it may have been that guys interpretation of an earlier El Camino.

Whatever his intentions were, he put a lot of love and ingenuity into it even if there is was not a whole lot put into fit and finish, and I am sort of proud to keep it on the road.

Thanks for the new perspective on a truck I have had for years and never considered the obvious possibility that it was, "business in the front and party in the back." or that, "The front is like a car, the back is like a truck, the front is where you sit, the back is where you f%*&."

Yup, correct box and fenders. The larger fenders started in '53. The low side bed was an option from '48-'50, and was standard (again) from '51-'53. I think the low side beds were gone by '55.

The De Luxe cab options changed over the run of the pilot houses, but the big difference over the standard cab was the wing vents. In '53 it also included dual electric wipers and a dome light. '48-'50 De Luxe cabs also had the quarter windows in the back, but that became a Custom cab option in '51.

This is a 3 truck mash-up. A '67 IH pickup and a '68 IH Travelall donating body parts. Then they went onto the chassis/floorpan/firewall of a '96 GM Z71 X-cab. I am 1 year into it with at least another year to go. Just hit the 2500 mile mark.

    natas63,

Does your truck have the shifter in the dash??? My great uncle had one of those old Dodges like yours, and it was an automatic with an in dash shifter. I thought that was the coolest thing. We hauled much hay in that truck.

  29. OK I'm a little slow on the draw. This is part of someone's build thread that are going to slide a late model frame under something or??? What is cool and HAMB appropriate about a a piece of a late model truck with the roof hacked off?

its a joke that I'm not privey to right? Am I missing something here?

  30. Paul you could post that bugger everyday and I would still like to get another look at it.

I don't care what anybody thinks its as smooth as silk you got it in spades friend.

    Tommy,
OK friend I looked 3 times before I figured out that this isn't a touring car. That is cool bro. What do you plan to do with it? its not finished right?
