I just struck a deal where I sold a 74 roadrunner for cash, and had the guy throw in a 64 barracuda, with no motor, but otherwise complete. It has a four speed, good bucket seats, and all the trim and stuff. Was wondering if the rearend would be usable for an early coupe,It looks narrow but havnt measured it,or know what gears,Also thinking of using the steering column, and wheel since mine is a 30 plymouth.Anyone ever use any of this stuff for their project? The body is real bad, bondo city,so I am not considering putting it on the street, just parting it.Thanks Patrick

  2. Early 60s mopar stuff kicks**** for use in a rod. I'm using '63 valiant pedals in my A, the column, and all sorts of small stuff. I'm going to use the window regulators in my '32 truck. The rear end is probably a 8-1/4, which isn't worth using in a rod. Dave

The rear ends in those cars are normally pretty low geared, either .290 or .323. It is probably a 7- 1/4 inch, and therefore not too strong of a rear end. If it has the inspection cover on the back it's the 7-1/4. If the whole pumpking comes out with the front section, then it's an 8-3/4 and a much stronger unit. I just had the .290 rebuilt in my Mom's cuda. It's a nice rear end for a driver, but I doubt it would handle much torque. BTW- i sent ya an email about some parts. Good luck! Fargo

if i remember right, the steering box in those dudes is an aluminum case unit that can be polished up to be a neat unit. sort of big, but if you've got room for it they can look pretty cool.

also mopar was using gauges (vs idiot lights) back then. i don't remember what the gauges in a 'cuda look like, but they might look cool in a mopar rod.

If the steering box is aluminum, how much for it?

  7. Oh yeah, that steering box is a******in piece of finned aluminum. complete with recirculating ball bearings. I tried to use the mopar steering box in my model A, but it got in the way of the starter. you could probalby use it with a diiferent motor though, with the starter on the other side. Dave

  8. The steering box is the one to use for cowlsteering.Cam Grants 32 roadster has one in it.The rearend in it should be a 8 3/4 cuz its a 4speed car.Should have some decent gears too,3.23s or 3.50s.It will be a good length for a rod too.The column, pedals etc should work great.Bucket seats might be a lil wide but you can narrow em.The 4gear is just a bonus for your hot rod........Shiny

  9. I need that early 4speed with shift linkage if available although shipping to San Francisco bay area might be too high. I think that box weighs about 125lbs.
