Excellent point. Most of the older guys really do appreciate someone from a younger generation who shows an interest in his/her's older cars.

Exactly, and if you're genuinely interested and wanting to learn it can open so many doors for you!

I wasn't aware of fiberglass 57's, how can you tell?

I think this one is fiberglass too! :D

  8. If that Stude truck is abandoned in the desert how in hell is the tailgate still on it???? I would have had it for a wall hanger in a second!

The shape of the doors, the lack of vents in the front fenders, the crack in the 'glass between the trunk door and tail light, the shape of the hard top, etc.

The body also has a dip inwards below the door - and the originals did not.

There are a few kit car companies that make replicas - and this looks like a poor quality one.

As for making friends with older car guys- No argument here- I'm 28 and that is how I got my first project. Made friends, got a car for free- it came in hundreds of pieces, but all I had to do was learn and build.

Are you referring to the floor vents? I can see them in the photo.

I think this is just a rust bucket filled with bondo, I wonder who owns it, it would be interesting to know for sure.

TBirds have a vent in front of the door that swings out for fresh air.

I think this is a kit car. The shape of the doors is wrong, and there is a crack in the fiberglass between the trunk and tail light. The top is also the wrong shape, the gas door is absent, the area around the door handle is mis-shapen, etc, etc. - overall the dimensions of the body are just 'off' - If it is a rust bucket - they have really botched up an original.

Here is a photo of my original 'bird for comparison. This car was 'sitting and rotting' for years in my Dad's shop.

Time is a fickle mistress, when I was young, my grandfather owned a wrecking yard. I worked there most of my childhood. I have hauled better than most of these across the scales and watched them get crushed or ground up. Now I look at these piles of rust and remnants and wish I could save them.......
Even is I had only saved many of the unique parts I saw on those old cars.

I see what your saying for sure, but the fiber car does have the floor vent, I can see it clear as day, but the car is very distorted looking in places, so it could very well be glass. I like your bird, great colour! :)

Flickr is a pain in the ass to post from, you could post the links or send them to me and I can post them for you, I've figured out how to do it with Flickr.

  22. yeah i can see the fender vent in the primered 57 also

but the door does look to have a different shape to it

werent the original "hardtops" fiberglass on the baby birds? so they could be removed easier

the primered one looks like it was hammerd hard in a rear end collision at some point

Drive by this one all the time. The guys rents the house and the owner of the house just lets it sit out near the street.

This is at family's place and probably only good for parts now. I took these pics last summer, notice the back window has actually fallen through and the trunk ridge is nonexistant.

Looks like it had some pretty bad rust before it was parked... I'd suggest selling it to someone who can and will restore it before there is nothing left of it.
