Not mine (Saw it at a dealer here while looking at a fishing boat)...but holy **** is this a bad *** boat. built in 1948- Ford/Offenhauser flathead V-8 engine - Built in Lake Wawasee, Indiana -14', Originally black w/ gold stripe - So-Cal speed parts - Offenhauser heads. Too cool...
Really cool boat. Did it follow you home??? Post the pics in the Vintage Speed boat thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=130864&highlight=vintage+boat
thanks for the heads up on that thread.. unfortunately it did not follow me home...it's little (or more like WAY) out of my price range
OK, stupid question. Can someone explain the prop and rudder extension to a non-boater? Growing up in Seattle, I've seen hundreds of hydros over the years but never anything like that. That is one nice set up though. Any idea of what year? I'm guessing late 50's?
It's a V8 60. At 135 cu in they were perfect for the 135 hydro cl*** in the late 40's and early 50's. Eddie Meyer raced 135 hydros, and his V8 60 parts were developed for the hydros as well as midgets. Clay Smith also ground cams for V8 60 boat applications.
dean, wasn't the 135 cl*** was created because of the already prevalent midgets to utilize the engines already developed for them?
those surface drive setups are enough to scare the **** outta anyone... those dudes had huge balls of forged br***.
It's a post-49 full size flathead. See the aluminum front cover? And the little rise in the water pump blockoff that covers the top outlet of the late pumps? But you are correct of the popularity of 60's in boats.
As a one time hydro driver - before my brain was developed enough to overcome my juvenile testosterone level - my only comment : cool but a window maker if I ever saw one!
That is a really neat racer. Be interested in knowing who built the hull. I have seen a few of these boats over the years but the drive in that fashion is new to me. Thanks for sharing the photographs.
