I have used this product in the past & like it. Can't seem to find it locally, in or near Charlotte NC.

Do you know of a product that applies and acts like Nitro Stan ?

Its junk, I would NEVER recommend using it... buy a "two part" product. If you want something that works like it use "Metal glaze" by EVERCOAT products.

I have not seen it in years, except for a tiny tube of "off brand' filler at a small hardware store. Either of these dry very slow and shrink a lot.

It was replaced years ago by PPG acrylic putty in both green or blue. My local PPG supplier no longer carries that :(. The acrylic dried much faster and had much less shrinkage.

Now they have the 2 part stuff you mix like body filler. I don't like it because I no longer have the time to walk around the whole car looking for tiny nicks to fill. The 2 part does not sand as well and smells bad.

I did see some of the PPG acrylic on ebay a couple years ago, may still be on there. If you are a stubborn old guy like me and hate all this modern 2 part ****, try to find the PPG acrylic, I think you will like it.

I believe he's looking for a glazing putty, not body filler. Stu

Big fan of Evercoat Quantum here. Fresh can is light and liquid, great for skim coats. As it ages it thickens a bit, so I keep 2 cans going, 1 for skims and 1 for building, but then again I use the stuff daily.

Keep the lid tight and it stays creamy. Ultra fine filler, skim coats sand with 180.

Oh... Got ya! Then Quantum or Metal glaze works great. Either one I have used them and have had great success.

Quantum has 2 different catalysts, hot and cool weather formulas. I almost never use the hot weather catalyst, unless I am applying it late in the day and plan on sanding the next morning.

I used Nitrostan for years. Like Hotsilver and others have said, the new 2 part product from Evercoat is far superior.

I think I will go with the Metal Glaze, but one more question. There seems to be a few part numbers for this product, # 414, # 416 etc. What is the difference in them?

We used Nitro stan in the 1960's, it's lacquer based and will shrink for 6 months after it's applied. It was used to fill sand scratches. Keep the can on your shelf as a collector item and use the new two part glazing fillers.

open the valve on your welding gas and fill the can with gas before you close it... zingo, no more oxidation.

Had a buddy bring me a cycle tank to paint, had that red spot putty in it.

Told him "Not with my paint on top of it!"

    He is very happy now that it is all said and done {with no red putty!}

I think I still have a tube of NitroStan laying around but even when it was new I hated the stuff. Shrinks like mad and loves to skin over and bait you into trying to sand it before it's completely cured. I think I'll look for it tomorrow and throw it away.

Years ago it was the **** to use. I still remember walking around the car with the tube and my favorite black squeegie, it was worn down to a knife edge. I also remember wondering why I put so many spots...cause I had to wet sand them all !!!! Going to White Castle with the car in primer and red oxide spots ALL over....now that was cool.

Me too, you can get it all out of the tube.

my story; DP40 all laid down, Orange basecoat done, White stripe done, 1st coat of clear looking good...****, little puckering wrinkles, every bit of it backed out.
Hundreds of dollars wasted that weekend.

2 part putty is your friend.

I agree with the rest, don't use it! It used to be the thing to do, but most guys overdid it anyway, and had terrible shrinkage after the paint was applied.
Today's catalyzed putties are light years better!
I use Metal Glaze, and Icing.

Nitro Stan! I remember the smell of that stuff. It had that irresistable chemical bad-for-you scent!

Nitro Stan ????????? LMAO! I had to use Alot of that @#$% behind collision body men back in the early 80s. Had alot of probs and lost my *** on redos untill I got a clue and started sending the jobs back to them to finish right. beating the book was the name of the game. The shop manager started having the bodymen finish in primer. lol the tables were turned when they were the ones paying me to repaint the redos. Made better bodymen out of them. And the use of the Nitro went down filling pin holes only.

    Today it's U-pol's Dolphin Glaze.

I gotta thank y'all. This is the best site for getting a straight answer.

I guess the stuff that was used back when, isn't as good as what's out there now.

The money we spent sending the kids to college, to study chemistry, paid off.

Wow Nitro Stan haven't heard that term for awhile.
I like the Evercoat 2 part products.

I go over the body with a battery trouble light and mark the stuff I missed with a small pc. of tape or a white pencil so I don't miss them again ( but I do ) then mix small batches, you do waste some. A little drip of fibergl*** hardner will keep it open longer, why I have no clue but an old body man told me that years ago.

Small pin holes and scratches I apply the Evercoat glaze with a single edge razor blade, really push it in. not much sanding required if applied this way.
