yes its a sad topic and something for that i wouldn't think happens to often but it does and more than i thought possible! that is classic cars getting wrecked and robbed. i came across a major string of insurance photos that put reality of it into perspective! so i will start off with a bunch i've come across. the theft ones really piss me off btw!

Ditto. I believe that the first and second photos had its own thread a year or two ago...somebody on here wanting to buy the car, and asking how to go about fixing it... I could be wrong, but that's rare. :D

I have to agree a horrible thread. But looking at some of the rusted out relics HAMBers drag out of the woods and turn into beautiful machines most of those wrecks wouldn't be more than a weekends work for the amazing talent on the HAMB.

it would be a cold day in hell before id let some insurance company take my car and try to auction it away. ID buy it back and rebuild it panel by panel if i had to. Already did it once when i dragged it home.

  11. If it ever happens REFUSE to let them take it. I have always negotiated that I will not be buying it back.....I will be keeping it and they will be paying me. last rodeo with Progressive my truck got "totaled" and valued at 1500 bucks.....I refused that offer.....it ended up costing them about $6,500 when all was said and done and the truck was not totaled.

  12. Note to self.....get a fire extinguisher for every vehicle.....

This is good for getting a good perspective, a lot of people with vintage cars drive them like they are impervious to harm, but this stuff does happen a lot more then a lot of us are aware, and having the best insurance you can get, and taking proper precautions when you are out on the road can really help you in the long run.

You have to remember that we are just the current caretakers of these rides, and if we treat them right and make the right decisions they will long out live us.

I robbed these from another dead thread, but it's a really interesting thread worth reading if you haven't yet.

Surprised that insurance doesn't include retention of wreck?
Here in Oz, most of the specialist classic car insurers have that as standard in the policy.....

Good to have, and worth setting up from the beginning, I know with a few of the cars we've had in my family it's been a fight to keep them.

One insurance company said they were going to come take it away regardless of what we wanted to do, and we couldn't stop them... so I put the car between a building and 15 other cars all almost touching... that stopped them! :D

over half the shit you have in there are OT cars, not to mention this has been done before.

oh yea, nice "huge amounts of photos" warning for the poor dialup fuckers...

Look at the bright side,....In spite of the thread title, there isn`t so much as a single classic car in there.

I'm not sure I understand the point of this thread besides morbid curiousity, but perhaps to swing it in a more positive and relevant direction, There's a site called Copart.com that auctions off insurance loss cars, and has a whole section of "classics."

I've seen everything form burned out T-buckets to a Flood damaged 51 merc sled go on there. Might worth a check.

Agreed though that this thread is depressing, and seems mostly OT...

My friend "French's" '49 Chebby. Happened about a month ago. Kid in a bimmer squeezes in front of him and slams the brakes before French could open up some space between them. Broke the steering wheel too. Being repaired as I write this. The one thing we can't replace is the Anthony White pinstripping.
