Hello tiki-elvis. Thanks fore the photo's of Coe trucks you have posted. The al are great looking. What is the story behind the trucks? Did you build them and sold them furder? Withs trucks you stil have?

    Oh...great pic!! ^^^

I remember when tractors had fuel stickers plastered all over the doors, and a license plate that had puc decals stacked in rows.

    Hi people;

I'm looking for one of these for pretty much two years now, and had no luck.
If anyone could give me a hint, it would make my day. Or probably year.
    Any info is warmly welcome.

What chassis are people using to build these COE setups? What I've been thinking about doing is building a 60's model Ford COE that will be a hauler for my Thunderbolt when I get it finished.
Are they using duallies & stretching them? I want to build a bed for my car to go up on.

A lot of people, myself included take newer dually trucks and pull the bodies off, and make mounts for the vintage COE and go from there. 73-92 GM chassis are a popular choice because of the front suspension being easy to lower and bag, they also have narrow frames that make them fir better under the older COE's.

If you want to use a full on Ford COE from the 60's (that style was used from 57 to the 90's) the only problem I can see is that they are just shy of 8 feet wide, so fitting it to a modern chassis might be a pain. You could pick up a newer version of that series of Ford and put the older parts on it to make it look like a 60's model, some came with reasonable drivelines in the 80's and 90's. you could go even as far as to get a body damaged later one and change the whole cab to a 60's one and not have to do anything to change the look of it. (they changed a lot of things like the wiper arms, added removable panels to the nose and ugly modern badging)

The 58-60 C series Ford has 4 headlights.

To replicate the badging is not necessarily hard either, as it is the same style as the same year pick-ups and larger trucks, just find the size series you want and bolt it on.

Another plus with going with this style is that there is actually a few different cab lengths you can work with to make it how you want, like these fire trucks with their longer cab with a rear extension.

    Sleeper cab.

You could get crazy with it too and use the larger H series COE Ford that uses the same basic cab but mounts it much higher.

So there are really a lot of options for you on a project like this one!

LN7- the 56 merc tow truck was put together by a guy i know a few years back. he bought the truck at an auction and the wrecker came from nanton ab. he shows it often. i think the truck was used to haul bulk oil products and has the original paint. the wrecker painted to match.

I don't know him myself, but I wouldn't mind meeting him and see the truck in person, I likely will run into him this summer because I am doing a few southern Alberta car shows.

I wanted a COE for years and checked out many, it wasn't till I saw his 56 Merc on Flickr that I knew that was the truck for me, and last fall I got my 56 Merc from the Joe Lucas estate in Nisku, and I love it!

I even have the chance for an Ashton wrecker like his, but I already have 2 tow trucks and want to make my merc into a hot rod cruiser.

That's wild his has original paint, do you know where he bought it?

I've been making ALOT of headway on my latest project, my 1953 Peterbilt Hot-Rod, which started out as this '84 Chebby 1-ton dually...

I was lettering a full size Pete in my shop a few weeks ago, and it was kinda funny to see how little mine is compaired to a full size rig...

I wasn't sure where to post it, so I'm subjecting you guys to my pics.
I've considered posting up a build thread on my "Lo-Ball Express", if there's any real interest in it. (I know somma the 'purists' on this board would frown on it though.)
