Projects Toymaker's Twin Engine Dragster Build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Toymaker, Nov 22, 2010.

  1. Toymaker...If one engine coughs or pops you could strip the teeth.
WEAR..the engine will need to be timed together so not to pulse at
the wrong time. I remeber an article about Ivo's engines being timed a
certain way to reduce the wear to the gears. How about double
    ring gears...mmm

Thanks guys, I pretty excited! The plan is to have 2 ring gears on each flywheel which will be aftermarket SFI flywheels. The stock flywheels are only for static starts. Rocky

  3. Fantastic Rocky!! The pics of her on the ground is so cool! We're all starting to see your rail taking shape - GREAT PROGRESS!!

I like the "over the left rear wheel" shot, I can damn near see the front axle in my mind's eye.

Another part of the build done, I machined the frt kingpin bosses and bent the axle for the car today. I'm the luckiest guy in the world as I thought I trashed the front axle when I cut the wrong King Pin inclination:( But luck would have it that I was using the bottom of my 48 F1 axle as a jig so I recut the fishmouths and it fit the Top perfect, should go buy some Lotto tickets:D Anyway it's all tac'd and ready to weld, I took some more photos of my bender for you guys to check out. You'll see my home made die and an adapter to use the "Pipe" die which I had to fit to my "Troff" and shim up for 1 3/4 and again for 1 5/8".

Rocky, will driving be a problem with rght leg and offset of the differential hsg ? I guess I'm anxious and should sit and watch, but will your legs to go under the axel?

My legs will go over the top and it's a little awkward but not uncomfortable.

As long as it doesn't cut the circulation off to the point of gangrene. ;)

Why did you decide on round tubing for the bottom rail instead of square?

Could you describe the process of aligning the rear in the frame in greater detail?

The round tube was chosen to get the engines closer to the ground without having a frame that was 3' wide and the rearend alignment was accomplishd with a lot of measuring off the engine plate, an angle finder and finlly by checking the fit of the ujoint by sliding the yoke forward and seeing if thecaps slide back in with no resistance. Once all this checked out we welded the rearend mountsand once it was onthe groundwth weight on it double chck the ujoint fit and am very happy. I recieved Carls Fuel Logs and they a Bitch'n, I'd post pics but time is a PREMIUM right now as I'm trying to get thecar redy for the March Mee and got selected for Jury Duty this week.

Who'd thought in 2011 you would see something like this being towed down the highway.
