I have the Ron Francis under the dash turn signal switch in my 36 and it works great, extra lights up front and uses my brake lights. It is not self cancelling and I have had issues leaving it on, and when going through a light have had the signal on and had cars think i am turning, and thus turn in front of me cause I'm going straight. After looking and swearing I relalize that I had the damn turn signal on. Not always but sometimes. So I was wondering what folks have done to remind them that they have theie "hidden" switch on... by the way it is an open car and kinda loud so I'm not sure I'll hear a louder flasher. Any ideas?
I put a flasher with a very loud beeper on mine. Now my wife don't have to remind me it's still blinking.

Best thing since sliced bread! Only, go to the aftermarket Harley store, not the H-D dealer. There is a generic model the Harley guys are using, costs less than $50. (I understand there are different ohm values for number of lights used, LED, etc.; they're all different. Also adjustable: set for 3, 4, 5, or up to 9 seconds of flasher time. Real useable.
What about small, yet bright dash indicators? or you could use hand signals, just don't forget to bring your arm back in after the turn!
Get a 3 terminal signal flasher, hookup a indicator light to the extra terminal on the flasher the other wire off the indicator light to ground, It will blink when either side signal is used!
Buzzer idea is a good one motorcycle type that time out can get you seriously killed. You think you have your blinkers going but they have time cancelled.
I worked at a Yamaha motorcycle dealership in the early ~ mid '80s. At that time their self-canceling turn signals worked on a time and distance basis. Was a pretty spiffy setup ... and safe! Timer would kick off at a long light or whatever, but signals continued to work because required distance hadn't been covered. By the same token, blasting down the highway the distance would be covered quickly, but the timer took over and the signals continued to blink. No idea whether the system could be adapted to a car, but just figured I'd throw the concept into the mix.
I'm putting a tiny LED indicator light in the panel above my windshield on my 34 P/U. I had them in the dash panel on my old 34 P/U and it was easy to overlook in the day time. It's hard to miss a blinking light at eye level looking down the road even in the sunshine. The roadster has a 50s unit on the column with the light. It's just not high enough to catch my attention.
small beeper, just loud enough to bug the hell out of you, you will learn to just signal when needed.
I used some small green and red LED lights from Advance Auto, red for the brights, green for the turn signals - drilled holes on the under lip of the dash, stuck them in with a little silicone to hold them, but easily removed in case I need to replace one. You can just see them in the pic, left side of the dash close to the door - 3 little domes - super bright except in absolute direct sunlight - really bright at night. I also mounted the normal column switch behind the dash and pointing down. So, I just flip the lever right or left for signals - cleans up the column nicely. You can see the lever if you look hard on the left side of the dash as well.
The last time I stuck my arm out for a right hand turn, guy behind me, thought I was giving him the Bird ...
I have the same switch in my '47 and used to do the same thing. I went to Napa and got an LF-12, LF= loud flasher. It went right in place of the old one but clicks loudly. http://www.novitatech.com/tridonflashers.html scroll to the end of the page, fourth and fifth ones up. You should be able to get one at any decent parts store.
Leaving it on - like this?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laA71hKZPK8 Let me know what you figure out
Hmmmm..I like that idea. I bought one of those beeping things...ya do hear it...it's so incredibly loud & annoying. When you're sitting at a stop light, people are looking around for the heavy equipment backing up. Fortunately, it broke in about a few months. So, I might try the doorbell ringer. The only problem with that is that I might try answering the door while I'm moving.
