10% Ethanol Input Needed

  1. #1) the majority of oil used for refining in the production of gasoline comes from canada, mexico and venezuela. leave the arabs out of this. the majority of their oil goes to china. we're being cornholed by the oil companies and commodities traders who bank on our ignorance.

#2) corn based ethanol is not made from food grade corn, but rather feed based corn. stuff you would not eat for any reason. so don't blame food prices on ethanol. the left overs are made into nutrient rich fertilizers which are making tons of cash as a by-product.

#3) ethanol can be produced from plain sugar and yeast. actually it can be produced from any simple sugar or starch at home for around a buck a gallon. it is a bio-mass fuel. it is not a corn based fuel.

#4) it is not friendly to our vintage stuff and i hate that they are pushing it on us. i truly believe that it is the reason my edelbrock carb is constantly boiling out. or maybe i should just go back to holleys

    just a side note...
henry ford designed his vehicles to run on ethanol...

yes, we have more oil under our own soil than the entire middle east combined. drill, baby, drill.

Interesting, how long does it take to fuck up an engine?More than 5 years? How come my chainsaws and equipment runs just fine?
Back in the early day hot rodding, lets say 1948,hi test gas was what,90 octane? And that octane was rated a bit different then, than today ,with todays 89 being about 91 by the old rating.
So shit octane fuel is traditional :D Get over it and make a few adjustments.
Man,some of you would be terrible in an emercemgy situation...Improvise!

Some good drama for the morning.

We sure have the experts here that come spout b.s. as though it is fact. "Ethanol cost $22 per gallon." "Corn is the most subsidized crop to begin with and the least efficient in making ethanol."

Like it is said, if you tell a lie enough times, someone will believe it.

  4. I am not sure of the $22.00 a gallon. It takes more than a gallon to make a gallon. The actual cost might be $22 + ($22.00 x !.10)= the cost of $46.20.
This can not be right. Our government would not be in such a program. The government would not let them reduce the acres of edible corn to grow corn for fuel. This would lower the production of good corn and raise the price. The farmers would not stop growing other crops if they could make more money on corn. The farmers realize their job is to feed the world and not fuel cars and trucks.

  7. My $.02
Use a fuel stabilizer that is specifically for ethanol fuels. Smaller engines seem to suffer the worst (motorcycles, lawn equipment etc.)

I've been using it in everything I own, from mowers, snowblowers, chainsaws to every vehicle old and new. I have even used up to 50% ethanol in my old 350 chevy pickup. No problems in 20 years.

I get a kick out of all the companies making htese new additives for ethanol as it spreads across the country. We have been getting by just fine without them all this time? Who are these companies? Petroleum companies?

My 29 will have an E85 engine. 355, carb, high compression. Drag and dirt racers have been building them for years.

So what's the worst case scenario not using water filters or fuel stabilizers...................replace some rubber fuel line, clean out the fuel tank and carburetor, and replace some rubber components in the carb?

    No big deal.

um, it's actually pretty simple. Initial winnowing of presidential candidates is in Iowa. Imagine candidate "X" saying he's going to drastically reduce corn subsidies - think he'll (or she'll) win any caucus?

I want the '31 to be E96-capable, with minor carb adjustments.

All you need to know is here and here.

  15. I have carburetor cleaner and jet wires to clean the green gook out of carbs... I can (and have) soldered up holes in carburetor floats, things I didn't have to seasonally do before gasohol.

10% ETHANOL SUCKS. Here FL it has been mandated so you don't have a choice. When I go up to TN, I bring along about five 5 gallon cans to bring back real gas to use in my small engines. You get alot of strange build up in the carbs, from white powder to gel that reminds you of a can of sterno fuel. Way back in the old school days a old fella up in NC who was a midget racer guru gave me a fuel formula of gas and alky. He cured the separation problem with acetone. Of course it also included adding top oil.

Um I think some research is required. Go to the link, get the book, read the book. I will leave it at that.

Yes, we've had e10 in Minnesota for many years. I've had no problems at all with my old cars. My lawn mower doesn't care, either.

  28. well- +having actually WORKED in a ethanol plant, it is not a cost effective product.. only thing that helps was the MASSIVE subsidys given to the farmers. once those are finished - so is ethanol--- but use the stabilizers
