I was there when both were built. The dragstrip version is the copy. The original never ran. The main difference between the two are the engines. The original had a small 331 Hemi (hollowed out as I recall) and the copy had the 426 Hemi (front distributor).

This is the non-running car. We had hoped to make it run but it is missing several components to make that happen....

I'm confused. In the first pic you posted (the one I quoted above) the car looks to be in motion. Is it being towed? Or did it run at some point in its life? With that roll bar on it it looks like they were going to make a pass or two with it. The roll bar looks like an afterthought add on that they needed to have to be able to run. I would think that with the amount of chrome on the rest of the car that the roll bar would have been dipped in the shiny stuff too if it was going to spend any significant amount of time bolted on to the car.

Can someone maybe explain a bit for me?

I have a question about the copy - was it ever raced? Anyone have any idea of an ET or who was crazy enough to ride up there for a full throttle blast? Or was it just an exhibition car?

I hear ya. This has been my screen saver for years. Jeanne Carmen and a 56 studebaker golden hawk. I doesn't get much better.
