Hey Tex, bitchin' truck. Finish is dead on. Re: the eyeball, throw a plate or a plastic bowl or whatever on a threaded rod with a nut, screwed into the eyeball shift knob. A little wacky but did draw some strange looks and finger pointing.
I think we found brothers that may have been separated when very young Tex's '60 Bill's '57 <TABLE cellPadding=6 width=600><TBODY><TR><TD align=middle></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Wow...what a great thread..!! Great patina on the 60 chris. I did a little fake patina on the green one....but natural is much better. I bot 48 stainless caps for the green truck, put em on...not really crazy about the look....but thinkin about gettin the old bottlecap original caps chromed instead. Where can I get them chromed ? Anyone know anyone that will chrome them for me ??
First off, Wow love these fridges!!!! This thread has made my mind up that my next project will be a 57 F100. FIRST QUESTION: How much sheet metal interchange is possible between 57-60 model years. I seem to find more 60 F100's than 57's but I can pick up a 57 that has a nice grille and hood for parts (the rest is really rusted out). SECOND QUESTION: Do the larger F series parts interchange with the F100's? I know where a large series cab and doors are that are rust free and wondered if I could use them on a 1/2 ton frame. I assume body mounts may differ but what about doors, grilles, window glass, and hoods? Thanks ahead of time and keep the fridge thread stocked!!
Everything from the cab back interchanges between the years...1957-1958 have the same fenders, front vanalnce and hoods. Big trucks everything is the same excpet the fenders...they have a larger wheel opening
Front end for the f100,f250 and f350 do interchange. Fenders are the same 57 - 58 and can use splash pans. 59s and 60s differ. Pics pretty much tell the story. Doors do interchange. I included a pic of an F600 that shows the larger wheel well ( smaller lip ), these will fit but as you see the opening is much bigger than the standard. 57 front ends are tough to find in decent shape as well as doors. I'd grab em if reasonable. Sounds like you are rolling. Good luck. CJ
Thanks guys, much appreciated. I really like the grille on the 57 and the valence under it with the slots cut out. Also like the 57 hood better. The later model front bumper looks to be a better choice than the 57 though in my opinion. I will have to see how much the guy wants for the rusted 57 and get it soon so I have my pieces to do the conversion. Who knows, if the frame is good maybe I will look for a better bed and try to get the F600 cab sitting next to the 57 1/2 ton. It's all about money and time and having not enough of either but only living once - right?
So the 57 and 58 hoods are the same? I need a good hood for my 57, it has a 60 hood on it if anybody knows of a good hood in the north.
I love these trucks. I passed one up a long time ago and wish I did not. Oh well I will stumble across one eventually.
Been slowly peckin away at mine...too busy driving it New windshield with custom cab trim coming soon. Hope to get it lowered as well!!
Man, what a difference! (Sorry I didn't touch bases with you about meeting up when you came to town...we just had our baby, been kinda hectic...) Todd
Chris, even as I type this I can't believe I'm saying it...I like the way those Cragars look on your truck!
They don't look that bad, just not my favorite. Gives the truck a 70's look....but I just don't dig 70's look Now what Iw ould like to run is a set of Torque Thrust D's!
