I lived just a short distance from the Paddington Tram depot and went down to watch the fire the night it burned. That photo is actually from the side/rear of the building as the trams entered from Latrobe Tce.The fares in those days were all small denominations and reputedly thousands of halfpennies, pennies, threepences(tray bit) and sixpences(zacks) were lost when they fell through the burnt out floor.

Not hard to see why Betty Grable was American GI's favorite
pinup girl during WWII. Cheesecake photo THANKS to
    tarnishedsilverandsliveredalmonds! Betty, an actress, singer
and dancer, was touted as having the world's most perfectly
proportioned legs. In fact, her handlers bought some great
publicity by insuring her gams for a cool million bucks  with
    Lloyd's of London!

Iconic Grable photo pinup THANKS to bittenandbound!

With competition like Betty, it was NO sin for Noel "Lois Lane"
Neill to come in second in the GI pinup race! :D The spunky 5', 2"
Minnesotan got her real show-biz break, though, when producer Sam
Katzman cast her as reporter Lane opposite Kirk Alyn's Superman in
two popular "Superman" serials in 1948 and '50. After Phyllis
Coates played Lane for one season on TV, Neill personified Lois
through the rest of a long '50s TV run.

Shown with Kirk Alyn, Noel Neill brought verve and humor to the part of Lois
Lane and made her one of the most popular female TV personalities of the
1950s. There seems to be some confusion on the internet about Neill's status,
though rumors of her passing seem quite unfounded. A month after a statue
with her likeness as Lois Lane was unveiled in 2010, however, she suffered a
badly broken hip in her Tucson home and was hospitalized, according to her
biographer-friend. Wikipedia reports that always-upbeat Noel turned 90 last
    November. :D Go, Noel!

  14. Story has it that this publicity - and most famous - shot of Betty was taken from her backside is because she was pregs and just starting to show it up front. Whatever the reason, this is one GREAT pinup pic. No tats, rings, etc. - just natural perfection.

Know that street well.(actually Ellena St) I lived up on the hill where the water tower is.
Used to keep my 38 Ford Roadster parked under the water tower as no space in our driveway.I was only 13-14 at the time and used to drive around the top where Archibalds old house used to be.The old house was moved to the Milton tennis courts as the main building there. This happened before my time and the top of Garfield Dve was a vacant lot for a long time.Gave us somewhere to drive the old 38.

  16. Wow, anyone else think that Noel Neill and Donna Reed could be sisters?

In Richmond the Nash Ramblers were used by meter maids. They weren't for regular patrol work. Then they had some stupid mopeds in the 70's.

  18. I've said before that my taste in women was influenced by my Dad's taste in women-that and his secret stash of early 1960's era girlie mags and pinup calendars-so here's one that I know was his favorite. As a WWII vet,he was also fond of Miss Grable as well. Like I said, good taste in classy dames.

No offense, but the last thread like this got killed by posting off topic pictures/puns/donks/sheet.
no offense, but this is a kinda pre 64 ish forum.
no offense but I would hate to see this thread get cut off for straying too far away from its heritage.
no offense. but this is a transportation style forum, so if the pic at the very least has a street, or a car or is at the very least, pre 64, then it can't be too far out of bounds.

Stretching it by posting post-64 pooponarope is gonna get this thread in trouble (again) and it will be shut down just like the long lost picture thread that was so good 2 or 3 years ago.

    yours truly,
