Those 2 cars look insane together! Between these 2 cars, I didn't want to leave GNRS. The more you look at each car, the more trick details you find. To leave Salinas Boyz out of the 'Customs then and now' building is just lame. How do you exclude one of the most influential builders of our time?
An organized snub of the most recognizable and influential custom cars of the last decade is pretty hard to pull off unnoticed.... or without backlash. I for one, am glad you were man enough to drive it there on your own accord. There was a huge crowd around it every time we walked by. It was kinda like going to Pebble Beach and a Ferrari GTO is parked in the parking lot. Odd.
Whaoo! Your the chosen one? They picked the right guy, I can't wait to check it out. I'm hanging on. Happy Trails, Mick
Paul and Rudy's Merc fucking ruled the GNRS .........Period. As far as the 36 parked in the Rain at the show or being outside , I dont want to be a crybaby and I didnt give a shit really that I wasnt asked to put anything in the custom show, maybe it was because the guy who was in charge has a problem with me? why? just because I chopped his 32 before he bought it from Von Franco then I see it on the cover of Rod and Custom the guys quoted " I bought the car pretty much the way it was ,except for the chop, I did that".......lol....... what a faggot.[/QUOTE] Now we know the rest of the story
I guess a car's significance "then and now" is directly related to the builder's relationship between a show's lame organizer and his yes men flunkies. Cole's 36 not only influenced the entire "new" generation of builders, he shared the whole build on the HAMB.
Coles work speaks for itself. I would love to slide behind the wheel of anyone of his builds. Both of these cars are jaw dropping. To bad when this "hobby" becomes a popularity contest.
On our way to the GNRS we hooked up with Paul at Rudy's shop, and were one of the lucky ones able to see both these bitching cars under the same roof!! Wow, what a sight!! I'm marked for life And here is Paul trying to become a Coupe Devil...haha Bling bling!
I NEVER took credit for chopping the top on my old Deuce that made the cover of Rod & Custom. Its public records - read the magazine or read the article that is still on the Rod & Custom website. I bought the car as a running SBC hot rod but didn't really know the entire background of it . I guess i was soooooo amped to finally own a Deuce 5 window - and add my own flavor to it - its all i thought about . (That was 16 years ago - not yesterday). Then a year or so later tore it apart , re did the firewall, installed a completely different drivetrain , painted it, had the upholstery done, wheels & tires, etc. A big misunderstanding where i should of done thorough homework prior to any of the magazine articles. Public apologies to Cole and Franco - who i have always had the utmost respect for. Cole and i are good, we've both been in to this for a long time, and will both be around for decades to come. Per Cole's request there will be many hugs and man love when we see each other next time. ! Lets get back to the subject on hand. Two amazing customs . Alex/Axle
Perfect, a timeless lesson in restraint. The amount of chrome and stainless that is there (and isn't there) is perfect. Extremely low, but none of that broken suspension laying frame bs. Heavily chopped with out the look of being over-chopped, but you know all this by just looking at them. Love it.
do you know if rudy already has it for sale, cause i seen a ad on CL last night and when i clicked on it it was removed
You mean you were the 2nd one chosen...at least as far as the Merc went! And it was already in the can by the time the '36 had finally found its way from Wilmington to Brea. Glad you were able to grab some shots of the two together regardless.
Prints now available in the classifieds if anyone is interested. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=571825 haha this pic is in the ad that Stu posted.
