Spending most of my life in the MidWest I have been to a number of shows in WI and IL. A little over a year ago I have moved to Europe and been to a few shows around and every show was a full weekend/camping/racing/dancing/band playing party until day break. Race 61 in Germany was an absolute blast at the old air strip! My friends and I are getting ready for A-bombers Weekend and/or SINS this year. It's really nice to be able to enjoy the show/races, have a "few" cold beverages, and be able to crash out on site in a cozy, sweaty, stinky tent. I have never been to or heard of a show with on site camping in the states and was wondering if and where these shows are at?

I don't think most Americans can be trusted with such an option. Already enough issues going on as it is.

The Ducktail Run in Gas City, IN lets you camp on site. My brother and I did it a couple years ago for three days and it rained every day.

Also at the Rebel Run up in Lima, OH but that was just for two days.

    They're around...most people don't/won't camp out, though.

Return To The Milltown in Palmer M*** has camping. I've gone a few times and had the best freakin time ever at a show. Bands rockin out all night, hot chicks all tipsey and fun, campfire bench racing. I can't wait to go this year. Bummed I missed last years. The only ****ty thing is that every morning at like 4am this train that has to be 10 miles long literally shakes the earth for about 10 minn or so. I swear I thought it was a earthquake my first time. The next year it was great to watch all the first timers freak out!! I think they might be relocating this year though. Lance, if you read this am I right? Geoff, LEADFOOT C.C.

When I was stationed in Germany 20 years ago, my wife and I routinely went to weekend car shows that had camping. Cologne, Essen, Munich...even one in Magdeburg when that was still EAST Germany! Over 900 US cars at the show in Magdeburg, and my wife and I were the only Americans there! Went to a few in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, too.

When we went to our first few weekend shows, we slept in the bed of our Dodge pickup, under the stars. Later, we spent a few bucks on a decent tent and went that route. Campfires, wine, beer, good friends and a lot of fun! I miss those days a lot.

Only been to a handful of shows in the US that had camping on-site, and they just were not the same.

We're so rough and tough here that camping out would involve a 45' RV with at least five slideouts, a 30' trailer with a shops worth of polishing equipment and full hook ups. Things aren't quite the same (or as much fun) here.

We used to have these things like that ,they called them "Rod Runs "
not so much anymore .Kinda 70's 80's thing .We used to even sleep
in trailers and not haul our cars on em too. Well we used to call that
"Street Rodding" but its all different now .

BTT50's at the MN State fairgrounds in St. Paul has two campgrounds and is a great way to go. You must preregister for the campgrounds way early though.

    You lost me there.

At the end of the day I want to go get a shower & have dinner somewhere with good A/C & lots of sweet tea.... then go cruise the strip, host hotel parking lot, or just shoot the bull in the hotel lobby with my buddies.

Then the next morning I get to start my day with ANOTHER shower & clean towels!

As said the Iola Old Car Show and swap meet has a huge campground that has a shuttle to the show grounds and swap meet. Great time there for the past 33 years.

There's a show in eastern Washington state that's held at the Central Washington State Fairgrounds hosted by the Vintiques car club that has camping in the fairgrounds. It started out as a 1948 and older show but is now 1972 and older. Somebody on the HAMB was complaining about that a few days ago, but there are plenty of HAMB friendly cars there, too. I've been going to it for 17 years, and I hope I can go for another 17. Lots of friendly people, nice hot weather, cool cars, cold beverages, and the club sells ice on the grounds. Usually draws 700+ cars. I think it's better than Christmas. :D

  23. Showboat City Rumble in Michigan we've tried to do camping but the show isn't large enough yet to make it a weekend show but hopefully in the future since the show is held in very large park with private camping with electric right in the park

Jalopy Showdown in Pa.One of the best.Have a few beers or whatever and mingle. With any luck you will wake up in your own tent.Shaded spots and I hear the new bathrooms are done!!!! Lots of vintage trailers too

  26. You can camp at the HAMB Drags. Many of us have done it. Something cool/eerie about a dragstrip at Midnight when the lights are shut-off...................way cool when your pals from Wisconsin roll in at 2AM looking to get through the gate to sleep/crash/partake.........not in that order. Car shows in Europe have always sounded like fun. And not a far cry from the rock fests of the 70's. The biggest one I ever attended was the Holland Pop Fest in Rotterdam, 1970. Just a week or so after LeMans. The only difference between the two events were the race cars in France and there were more hippies in Holland!

While not entirely OT, I just went to Sebring for the 12 hr. It is just the same as the old days. But now there are a variety of organized "groups" that have been attending the race for decades. In those years, they've developed their camping to resemble a military deployment. Bands, stages, lighting, sofa furniture, carpeting, RVs / tents and of course food and drink. Some come in big old busses or cargo trucks with roof platforms. Like a NASCAR or INDY infield party.

But... try to find a car show promoter or fairgrounds that will allow that kind of frivolity the entire weekend. Instead, you might be better off organizing a hot rod "raid" at an established race like Sebring or Watkin's Glen or another track that allows camping at the track over the weekend. That would be easy, just roll in with your pipes open, some civilian logistical support, and join the normal crowd. Gary
