The car went back on the street, once he got married.:D
Hard to see, but there is red stripping between the white and blue. It was a period when a lot of car were doing the red, white and blue stuff.

Glad you like it and to be of help.

Jean that is a great old drag car that I am sure gave you some decent memories. Too bad it did not survive as a drag car. Of the hundreds of early drag cars very few survived in racing trim. My personal opinion is the racing angle was in large pare the real heritage behind the car, yet so many collectors feel that the world needs another example of how they left the factory. Different strokes I guess, although I will never get it.

Sinister great pics. I believe Rapid Rat was built by a Hamber's father, although I forget who that is. That car did not survive in drag trim either, I have been told.

As to the red 62, what do you know of this car?? I have been trying to nail down this 62 below and they have some similarities. Not saying they are the same car as the wheelwells are radiused a bit more on the drag car and the scoop height is a bit higher it seems. Just curious. I believe the car below may have been driven by Earl Wade although I do not know who owned it. Even the numbers on the window closely resembles Mazmanain's 61 #s and style (also associated with Wade). -Jim

I believe it left your neck of the woods a few years ago after the accident and the last I heard of it was that it was in NY state. A pretty neat styling exercise from the guys in the backroom at GM-not sure of any superperformance though it looks pretty cool-Jim

Here my 66 Corvette. I bought it for my 21st birthday and still have it 30 years later.

Here's another shot of Dennis Wilson's Vette. Notice the pie crust slicks just barely peeking out. Somewhere I have a different photo that clearly shows the slick that Dennis ran on the car.

Just old G60-15's with the stock F-41 rear spring. The pictures do make them look like the tires are out there. lol I love this old car.

The Rapid Rat was my dad's car, along with the other one I posted. He had several Corvettes when I was growing up. He told me he bought it for $500 and it was just a shell with a huge hole cut in the firewall. I have very fond memories of that car, but recreating it wouldn't be the same.

Sinister sorry I did not remember that it was your dad that owned it. Guess the brain cells are off kilter. Cool car and I know about recreating it. Now if you only knew where it went and that maybe it was restored and needed to be re-restored "properly" then that is something altogether different. I almost wonder what my life would have been if I never spent a decent part of my youth admiring like cars at the local drag strips. Wouldn't trade the memories for anything if the truth be told-Jim

No need to apologize Mr. D.- You didn't know. We are here to share in our knowledge of history. Even though my dad wasn't famous, he left his mark doing what he loved.

Thanks for the kind words about my dad's car. If I could resurrect any of his cars, it would be a 52-3 Stude he built with a 354 hemi/4 gear. He street raced this car before drag racing was a sanctioned sport. It was baby-blue primer, white pinstripe flames, 172 louvers in the hood, and sat about 3 inches off the ground. My sister has some pics in a photo album, but it's buried in the garage and 1000 miles away from me, so it will be awhile before I can get to them.

Thanks JP. I have no clue where the pic was taken. I thought it might have been at Pomona, but that would be a guess...

Dave, your car looks great in both pics, although truth be told I like the old pic best. Pretty cool 57 and glad to see you went with blackwalls and dog dish caps if you took it back to stock configuration.

Any history worth repeating on Trouble?? -Jim

    Jim,
I wish that I Knew more about the 57 during it's drag days. The previous owner had the car 42 years and had raced the car for many years of his ownership. I bought the car from his widow and she gave me a box of photos
of the car in different stages. He had made the car into a Hot Rod, Rat rod with a 383 stroker before he passed away. I have attached a photo as I bought the car.

I sure like your version better. But I imagine someone will figure you should have left it in primer with the red wheels LOL

That was awesome. The sound those small blocks gave off was like music to my ears. What kind of info can someone give me on the motors that were used? Cubic inch restrictions, specs, etc....
    Thanks.
