I used to own a Pontiac exactly like yours, CLIK. It was red and white. Previously belonged to my father. I remember the Mighty-Mo Drive-in on the corner of New Hampshire Avenue and I guess it was Sheridan Street, is that right? Lots of memories. I was very young, about 13. I remember when it was converted over to a Kentucky FRied Chicken place when I was in my 20s. But during those Might-Mo years, it had female servers who skated out to the cars. That was good food. Looks like Antietam Gallery is hosting another Mighty Mo Hott Shoppes reunion October 1st (and 2nd?). I know, I know, but it is what ya make it. And you know you can't hold it in the old hood. I might have to cruise up to Sharpsburg and check it out. Maybe pick up some Mighty Mo art work for the den.
If you decide to go let us know. I went last year. I was the only one there that was from The Queenstown Mo. There was a very small car show behind the place. It would be cool for the original Mo Rat hoodlums to invade the place. It wouldn't take much to double the size of the show. I seemed that there were more girls, that cruised the Mo in their moms car there, than the real hot rodders from that era.
In light of the fact that Tommy has the head of the original Cowboy from the Queenstown (Hyattsville) Mighty Mo, I make a motion that he lead the Sharpsburg Campaign and the Charge on Antietam. Tommy, you'll be the hit of the show with that piece of memorabilia.
Here's another shot of the Mo on New Hampshire Avenue. I'd post it but always have trouble getting pics up on the HAMB. http://www.flickr.com/photos/57343654@N03/5520830211/
Yeah Right! I took it last year and nobody cared. It was like going to a class reunion for a different school and a different year. No real car guys and no old friends to talk to. If we can scare up some old Mo Rats to go, then I'm all in. I know a few that are still around but not HAMBers. You, me and Donny are a start, I guess? The artwork is fine but it does not bring back any memories of the Queenstown Mo. I was disappointed. The Hot Shoppes painting does remind me of the Hyattsville Hot Shoppes but it never was a car spot. We went there after church in a coat and tie.
Sometimes it is what ya make it. I don't claim to be a Mo Rat. I just barely got to experience it before it was torn down, but I know a few Mo Rats, and if you make a list and want to invite them I may be able to help with their locations.
Photos of the old Queens Chapel Airport and some mention of The Mo and The Mo Shack. http://members.tripod.com/airfields_freeman/MD/Airfields_MD_PG_C.html
Is that the same Armstrong that owned the yellow deuce 3 window? I remember that car from Capitol Plaza and the Timonium NSRA shows.
Yes it was yellow also for a while. That's the car. Did you go to the Wed. night cruise nights at Capitol Plaza? It was all word of mouth. That was long after it's heyday as an every night hangout but there were an ass load of cars there on Weds. until the squirrels with their Camaros ruined it and they chased us out.
Yeah, I've gone down there a few times. It was on the other side of town from me, but it was worth the trip down there. Good times............
Does anybody remember a black 65 SS Chevelle between the years of '67/68 that belonged to Manfred Wagner? He used to race it on Route 29 University Blvd at Maryland U and Kenilworth avenue. He says he never lost to anyone!!!
I got word that Dennis Cook, who is a good friend and business associate, of Tommy Kivetts was responding to a burglar alarm at his shop (Custom Tubing) last night and accidently shot himself in the leg. 357 Magnum. Ouch! I think I'll try to find a Barney Fife Get Well card and suggest he keep his one bullet in his pocket.
Wasn't that Bradley's 65 Malibu? He was pals with Manfred and all the Tacoma Park crowd. Bradley later bought a 67 Marina blue SS 396 Chevelle with a black Vinyl top. Maybe Manfred bought it from him? I never saw a speck of dust on any of his cars...ever! He laid a newspaper on the floor behind the drivers seat to place his loafers on after he sat on the front seat and drove in his socks. He didn't want to dirty the pedal pads. All of those guys drove right past the New Hampshire Mo to get to the Queenstown Mo...where the action was. They were a nice bunch of guys. I think they all relocated to Arizona 40 years ago now. They raced right in front of the Goddard Space flight center on University Blvd. all at the time of the Apollo missions. They were not controlled from there but it would occasionally get mentioned on TV. We gave it the nickname NASA.., "are you going to race at 29 or NASA?" We all new exactly where to go. I watched lots of races on 29. It was the boondocks then.
Next time you see Tommy Kivetts, ask him about Dickey Boswell's beater dome light and the beater wars at the Mo.

Those are Hot Shoppes. Our parents went to them after church on Sundays. Us hoodlums went to the Mo every night to check out the cool cars and girls.

The Mighty Mo mustve been named after the burger served at Hot Shoppes, correct? Is the the Mighty Mo Drive in you're referring to? If so..i found a picture! http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4010/4432161725_6708c2b98a.jpg
