My early 283 does not have any threaded holes on the froward part of the head for a alternator bracket. If I want to mount an aternator and I was not running Ram Horns with the mounting bosses on them where else could I mount it? I was thinking of a low mount but I really think I will have hood/frame clearance issues. Any ideas?? Thanks, Todd
A couple days ago there was a thread about converting a long sbc water pump to a short one and the alternator mount was addressed there. I'd post a link but I don't know how, a search will bring it up.
There was a company is the last issue of Street Rodder that had a bracket that will work for early SBC. I had bought one years ago for a 283 that I was running. I will see if I can find it for you
several places sell a mount that bolts to the front intake bolt on the passenger side and a water pump hole. puts the alternator in for hood clearance check out what Speedway , So-cal and Alan Grove has to offer here is the So-Cal , easy to make yourself Speedway , basically a 70's smog pump mounting bracket
Just took a peek at the Walden website. Thiers looks alot like the Socal one but less expensive. Thanks!!! Todd
the Walden on the So-Cal brackets look the same because they were both designed by the same guy...jim jacobs
If you run headers, there's a mount I used that attached to the front header mount.******* sells them.
Yes, a lil info on it. It uses the front 2 drivers side header bolts to attach the bracket. Its Z shaped and you mount the lower alt. bracket to it.
jitney or welder series.............. https://www.welderseries.com/blog/online-store/alternator-mount-kits/
I went with the Jitney driver's side mount. Nicely made, well packaged, good instructions, fits with no issues. The neatest part is that I can point it out to you and say "Jake made that for me."
