Me neither, the ones for my 57 Chevy I bought for $15 out the scratch and dent room in the back of Classic Chevy International, like a dumb ass I let them go with my car.

If either of you guys wants a "space pig" you are welcome to the ones from my Elky for the price of shipping. I got about 12 of them in the boxes of parts. I am not going to use them at all. I am not sure if there are any with both studs though. Nads, maybe you can use them as some sort of interior design accent or something.

I have not forgotten about the trim piece for you Jay or the garnish pieces for you Nads, I just can's get into the car right now. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks. It is warming up right now & I should be able to get the Elky out so I can get to the parts soon. It was 40º today. Finally the warm weather is coming back.

Jay, do you have any idea what caused the hole in the center of your bracing under the hood? Looks like it was cut with an axe. The hood looks really good.

  6. If I had to guess.. I'd say it was hit with an axe, too! There's only one tiny spot on the hood skin, that actually got hit with the blade. Or whatever did that damage! Thanks for the compliment an I'm glad, it's warming up for you.. Wow 40°!

  7. Toner,

    Sent you a PM.

    Thanks, Jim

  8. I had to use this(which is black)..

as the insulation between the inner structure and the actual hood skin. Then I used the paint-able, 3M seam sealer to go over it.

The seam sealer, stills needs to be feather-edged, then I can finish up under there.

Look what the cat dragged in.. T/Thrusts don't have the writing in the back, when they're magnesium. They have an oval sticker, but that usually gets lost, long before I ever see any.

These things are crusty!! Not quite sure they're magnesium, but they are lighter & darker. Wow, lighter and darker.. all at the same time?!

  9. I swapped girlfriends once for one that was lighter & darker.

That was a good deal too.

  10. I searched today.. jammed up the net, trying to find that pic. Then I remembered it was on the HAMB, the same very thread where I learned your 57 had the blunt export, hood rockets! It was side view picture, on a blue fender.. if I can mis-remember right! Still came up zeros!

  11. It's all pink on the inside! Hot damn, I love America!

  13. OK, back to space pigs (dated one of them once too but I won't get into that)....

Can broken studs be removed or drilled out & re-tapped?

Damnnit! Now I need another new keyboard. I gotta learn not to drink anything when I am on the HAMB.

  15. 55 Chevy grille bars, have studs in them.. Pot metal being so brittle, I would say it's a case by case situation. Each being different. I don't know how much material is under there, surrounding the stud? I don't have any of those lil piggys!

  16. I had to think about that.. But I figured it out! Hahaha

I agree completely. I'm just a new-guy lurker but this is a great thread. All the neat work you're doing is motivating me to get busy on my non-HAMB-friendly '66 Impala. Thanks for taking the time to document what you're doing Jay.

Love those old Elkys with the fins! IMHO the best looking El Camino of them all. Best of luck fixin' er up.

  20. That's cool, I'm glad to motivate! You have to wanna do it!

    They're contagious.. fer sure!

Here's your pics.. more paper towels and rust remover!

Then I had to wash it off with water an a rag, to neutralize it..

I do enjoy the 59's the most.. Harley Earl is one of my heroes!

Anytime I have to do this it just feels wrong to be pouring water onto a bare metal part that I just put time into removing the effects of what water did to it in the first place.

  22. J.

Maybe I missed all the details on one of the 53 previous pages but..... what are you using to de-rust all this stuff?

I'll be doing mine a piece at a time while I attempt to keep it on the road. Blowing it all apart to blast really isn't going to be an option.

    Thanks, Jim

  23. Me too man - & I already have one!

This one is keeping me awake at night & causing me to consider drastic measures....

  24. It's Blue Lightning, rust remover an it removes the dark deep rust.. the B/L metal prep goes on after & instantly removes the light flash rust. When it dries, it leaves a phosphorus coating to eliminate any contact with oxygen(the enemy!) Then you do all your body work or body fun, which ever you prefer!

Now, that is a cool fuckin' picture of that 59 Coupe. Man I have plans for one of those in the future. Another build to sell, type deal. I had a chance to buy one when I was younger, for a great price, BUT I couldn't bring it home. I've lost out on THREE NOMADS, also.. cos I couldn't bring um home! WOW, unbelievable!

  25. Thanks for the info J. I'll look into the Blue Lightning. A 55 gallon drum should just about do me.

Yeah, the 2dr. ht is a killer. I've stopped a few times & can't catch anyone home. If I ever scratch up enough $$$ I'm going to pull a stake out on the place & wait 'em out.

    JH

  26. I would say at least buy a gallon. It goes along ways, if you're thrifty like me!
Good luck on the coupe, it needs to go to a loving home!

Looking good J ....tried to start a thread ,gotta work on getting the pics to work....but did post some in my album...check it out and let me know what ya think......believe me this thing is addicting ....I thought the 6 inch chopped model a was exciting ...this thing is got me daydreaming of what to do next ....

  28. I just copy and pasted your pics from your album, to your thread. So however you uploaded them to your album, seems to be working. The ralley rims aren't hamb friendly, so I would keep those on the hush! Or they'll start firin' back.. I'll be watchin'!

As long as you mention that they are just rollers nobody will get on your case too hard. My A has skinny centerlines on the front and 80's GM rallys on the back right now so I don't get spatter or anything on the good wheels.

I am just happy that they hold air :D
