I'm getting ready to set these up..I bought a used set so it had no information with them...so I've been searching the HAMB for some info...not really much is posted. My questions are..if they do matter?? 1- Should the front mounting tabs on the front crossmember point down or point towards the rearend..or does it matter..??..see pics 2- Should the ladders bars be level with the ground or frame areas..?? 3- How should the rear mounting tabs be postion..??..angle..?? distance?? I guess I want to check before I start to tack things up...my pinion angle has been set..the rear spring crossmember is tacked in position and the spring mounts tabs are parallel to the ground area...as you can see I had to drop the crossmember about 6"...my rear kickup was high...
Great question....I'm not sure yet...???..I'm just mocking things up... I have the engine and tranny...if the ladder bar crossmember does not fit I might cut the ends off and drop it...or sell this crossmember and buy the dropped one..This is my first build and I'm trying take it one step at a time...I'll be mocking the engine up in the next couple of weeks... I emailed Jason at Pete & Jake's...still waiting for a reply..
I think you are referring to the cross member/cross tube mount that the front of the ladder bars attach and not the front cross member, right? We mounted the cross tube as high as possible to give sufficient clearance for the drive shaft. These are a couple of photos of the way we did it on my frame,,it's a '32 but I would think if it was done like this you won't have any problems. HRP
BTW,,the mount where the front of the ladder bars attaches is made extra long so it can be cut to desired width. HRP
HOTRODPRIMER...great photos..my only issue is that the top ladder bar will be too high...it might hit my floorboards...I guess I'm just have to work through this.... I can mock up a driveshaft and see where it's position...I could also drop the rearend if needed..?? Forget to mention..the way it looks now in the mock up..the driveshaft will go over the top of the crossmember...
The tabs point down, the angle of the tabs matches the angle of the bars. The rear mounting brackets should be plumb, looks like you need to put a bit more ellipse or oval onto the bra ckets. The straight cross member goes above the drive shaft, the dropped crossmember goes below. it is not necessary for bars to be level or any particular angle relatd to the ground or frame, Just so they don't hit the floor of the car. Be sure you have your adjustments centered or at least not bottomed in one direction before final welding Thought you had this discussion last August? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=505431
The dripped cross member is 7-1/2 " tall from top of tube to bottom of drop. This places the ladder bar mount at 4-1/2" from top of tube. If that helps you
Boy I'm losing my mind...I did post this in August.....this is just what I need...I'm doing to much..2 projects are killing me..thanks and sorry..
That's funny,,I replied to the original post and I don't remember,,but heck,,I'm an old greybeard I have an excuse! HRP
Nice frame set-up...I bit the bullet and order a new dropped crossmember ordered it from RJay's..even got the HAMB discount..will sell the other one later...I think is the ticket for me..
