Roy- I wish I could join the Comet caravan back East. A bit tough these days. Rest assured I'll try to hold down the Mercury fort while you and play . Retirement? I'm counting the years when I get to say that!!!!!

    Dale

By the way, Bakersfield's finest weather was pretty tough on my Comet. The intake is covered with sand blown in from the freakish weather. Its a mess. No more show awards for this race car!! :D

Roy i just keep on looking at your car in car craft. It is amazing. Any chance you could tell me how high of the ground the rear of your rockers are? I would love for my 65 futura to sit just like it. Thanks for any info

J.T.Mays;Thank You for the kind words!! My Comet is 13" at the rocker behind the front wheel and 15" at the front of the rear wheel, never measured them before.I have stock V-8 coils in front and a ladder bar-coil over rear suspension,26"tall front tires,29.5" rear slicks. It used to sit almost level but I think the front springs have sagged[too many wheel stands]. Total Performance;what a crazy couple of days!!! It was cool having the two Comets pitted together,Dale and I got a lot of attention, met a lot of Ford-Mercury lovers.Too bad the weather put a halt on everything,I had family plans the following weekend so could not head back up for the reschedule. How is your project coming along? ROY.

Roy- I'm heading over to the 'All Ford' Show at Knott's Berry Farm in a couple weeks. I've been wanting attend this show since I was a kid, but not as a spectator. Now, its my chance of a lifetime. To have a Mercury in a whirling sea of new Mustangs!! I'll be down there with good friend John McBryan, and his kickass stroked Fairlane that he occasionally beats on at local venues. But I'm a bit worried. One box of rags is already gone from the wipedown of the waterbox mud!! Showcar? Uh, no... Street-driven race car- yes!!!

Aaron- got an email in to the powers that be, can you pm me your last name again. Dufus me forgot to add it in.. Get some SEMA swag your way!! It was great talking with you guys! You got me real stoked on a Windsor based platform sometime in the future!!

Speaking of SEMA, did anyone here get a chance to stop by NIC Industries booth on the main floor? They manufacture Ceracoat, PistonCoat, etc.. Well, they had a header on display that was coated with their PistonCoat product. This stuff had an incredible, deep, DEEP golden hue to it that instantly made me think of the 70's floppers zoomies. So- I contacted them, and am working on getting my headers coated with this highly durable product, thats should never discolor or fade like other ceramic coatings. Pretty sure we can put it through the ringer on the Rocket!! That deep gold tone poking outta the front wheelwells ought to do the trick as well!! If it works out, I'll be dragging the Rocket back up to SEMA this year, but on outside display . That Bruce Larson tribute Chevelle altered was getting WAAAYY too much love outside. Proper respect will be shown with a Comet in attendance outside, and Aarons will be inside, center stage!!!!!!

Dale;I hope you pre-entered,NO day of registration. There should be a few Comets this year, not mine though. This will be the first time I've missed it in a long time, same weekend as the ANRA opener at Famoso. They park ALL the Mercurys together,so if you get there early enough you Comet freaks should be able to park together.Could you shoot me a copy of the night time shot? ROY.

    Thanks Roy
I have been reading this thread for weeks now. I was going to update my 71 Comet untill an internet search led me here. Instead I dragged the old 65 caliente drag car in and stripped it and ordered parts. Floors showed up today.

I had to redo the supply and return lines and the gauge line,so much for a simple job!!!I'm headed out to a local fab shops car show Saturday then back over the hill for the ANRA opener April8-10,hope we get better weather than the MM!! Found a 1964 African Safari Comet in Hawaii. 4J23F504888 Body:63C Color:M Trim:65 Date:211 DSO:84 Axle:6 Trans:5 Was supposed to be destroyed after the Safari, but Jimmy Pflueger somehow saved one...Earl "Safari" Char said it was a complete mess when it arrived at the dealership, but he got it cleaned up.As far as I know it's still on the Island.

Nice shot of the safari car. I LOVE those front tow hooks. Gets me to thinking.....:D

I found a cracked, stock motor mount on the driver sdie this morning, while wiping all the grime away. Even with torque bar I made, this was bound to happen due to the age of these old mounts. Other than stocker replacements, dues anyone make poly-mount units for our small block equipped cars? Kinda searching the net a bit, but all I come up with is stock rubber units? Thanks for a point in the right direction!

You know what Roy,I'd have to say those were the original "Rally car"!
    What do you guy's think??

  23. Roy told me to use a 66 mustang frame extension and poly mount. You can get both from mustang parts suppliers. I have not did this but it is on my list. There is a thread on this on the comet forum.

Dale and Roger;yes,I used the mounts for a Mustang. They are the ones that delete everything stock and replace the mounts with an adjustable frame mount and adjustable engine mount that uses a poly mount with a through bolt.NPD carries them, made by Ron Morris in three versions,we used the stock height ones,part#6038-7R.CJ Pony Parts also carries them,part#MM6110. Ken;that could be the McCormack Comet, but if you look at the McCormack car they moved the bumper up to the tail light area and the one in question is in the stock location. The wheel wells look the same though. Myron;yes,I would say those 64s were the "original"Rally Cars"! ROY.

Wow! Those Ron Morris mounts are bitchin! I wished I would have used those on step one when I first assembled the car. I could have squeezed back the engine the added space I needed to mount the electric fan inside!! They are indeed very nice! Thanks guys for pointing me in the right direction!

Dale;I fabbed up solid mounts for my Comet as nobody was making anything for our chassis back then!!We used the RM mounts on the 427W in my buddies 65 Falcon, they work great.ROY.
