A few weeks ago, my brother in law called me and informed me that he had found an old Studebaker pickup in decent condition. We talked a bit, and he told me the man that owned it wouldn't part with it, so I never went by and looked at it. I've got too many projects anyway, and my brother in law has the same problem. Yesterday, my brother in law calls and informs me that he's been contacted by the owner and the man wants to sell the truck. He says he's going over to check it out closer, and tells me that the man only wants a grand for it. I'm thinking it's probably got rust problems and needs alot of help, no great deal here. On the plus side, it's a Stude and they're kinda rare around here. Being a Stude fan, I told him to call me if he bought it and I'd come over and check it out. My brother in law called me back and told me he didn't have the funds to spare, but Dad bought it. I get over to the house to find that the truck is probably the most solid studebaker I've ever seen outside of a museum. No rust, the seat's even nice! It had a Volvo six banger put in at some time, and was last licensed in 1992. The back glass was broken and the grill is missing, other than that, it's an awesome project. Guy said it was a '49- I don't know anything about them, so we'll have to run the numbers and see. I'll try to get some better pics later. apparently, the guy bought it in the 70's, drove it daily for a while, had it sandblasted and repainted at some point, and parked it in a barn, pulling it out just a couple years ago. Now if I can just keep dear ol' dad from sticking a bellybutton small block in it!
Yeah, I'm hoping to get that thrown out too. It may get a Chevy 261 in it- we've got a runner we took out of my brother in law's '53 chevy truck that's just taking up shop space, and it'd do the job until a better engine comes along.
49 Studebaker P.U. was my first ,mine was faded red and had the flat Six which used more oil than Gas,so we Pulled the Six out and a Friend Gave me a 56 Olds Engine / Hydro from a Burnt Olds 88 and I had a Sleeper, with 456 Rear Gear it came off the line like a bullet.
